Several area Miyagi Gymnastics Academy athletes captured medals at the recent 2008 Golden State Classic in Rancho Cordova.

Miyagi Level 10, 9, 8, 7 and 5 team members competed at the four-day Classic, with strong performances in the individual competitions and individual events.

Level 10 Erin Wipperman won first on the bars (9.275) and took third place in the all-around with a 35.75. Teammate, Annie Penrose won the silver for her performance on vault (9.225).

In the Level 9 group, Libby Gregory recorded a season-best score on the beam with a 9.2, which earned her the gold.

Teammate Sarah Leipsic gave her best on the bars and earned the second place (9.175). Also competing was level 9 Meagan Gulley and Hannah Clark. Gulley had her standout routine on floor (8.85) and Clark on the vault (9.05).

The Level 8 gymnasts to watch over the weekend were Lea Fong and Chandra Kramer. Fong delivered a gold medal performance on floor with a 9.3 and Kramer earned gold on bars with a 9.55. Kramer also performed well on the floor earning the third place award (9.175).

Also on the Level 8 team are Alex Esmerian, Kiely Gode and Mackensi Emory. Esmerian turned in solid performances on the beam (9.05) and floor (9.275) while Emory and Gode shined on floor with a 9.05 from Gode and an 8.65 for Emory.

Level 7 gymnasts, Brittany Brown (all-around, 33.75), Kristyn Carl (all-around 33.025) and Stephanie McCullough (all-around 32.975) also competed along with level 5 gymnast Shelby Jungers.

Jungers scored a 32.3 all-around and placed third on floor (8.8). Miyagi gymnasts are preparing for a series of state and regional qualifying meets starting in early April.
