Neighbor wrestles loaded gun out of man’s hand
30-year-old jailed for assault, indecent exposure

An Auburn man said he is still shaken after he had to wrestle a loaded gun out of his neighbor’s hand.

Jim Ford said Monday that he is worried about what will happen if and when his neighbor, Michael John Seitter, posts his $75,000 bail.

“He had a bullet in the chamber. He cocked it. I heard it,” Ford recalled. “I’ve never been in a situation like that.”

On Monday, Seitter, 30, remained in custody at Placer County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and indecent exposure after he allegedly attacked Ford and exposed himself to a female neighbor Friday night, according to Dena Erwin, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Erwin said the alleged attack occurred at about 9:10 p.m. on KOA Way in Auburn. She said deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a verbal argument and arrived on the scene to find Ford restraining Seitter.

According to Erwin, Seitter was arguing with his neighbors and “making inappropriate comments.”

“He was asked to leave but returned and continued to cause problems,” Erwin said.

Erwin said Seitter went to a 35-year-old female neighbor’s house and made sexual advances toward her while he allegedly took off his pants and exposed himself to her.

Seitter then left but about an hour later, returned to Ford’s home with a gun and beer bottle in his hand.

“I got something for you,” Seitter allegedly told Ford as he approached him.

Ford said he grabbed Seitter as he got closer and wrapped his legs around him to bring the gunman to the ground.

“I got him down to the asphalt and just started slamming his wrists over and over six or seven times on the ground until he released the firearm,” Ford said. “He kept scrambling for it.”

Ford said he was able to kick the gun out of arm’s reach and handed off Seitter to law enforcement when they arrived.

Initially, deputies could not find the firearm and thought that Ford mistook screwdrivers found on Seitter as the weapon.

However, after deputies left, Ford found the gun a few feet away and deputies returned.

They recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun at the scene and found the gun was registered to one of Seitter’s relatives.

“The gun had fresh scrape marks like it had dropped on the ground,” Erwin said.

Ford said he feels lucky to be alive.

“He was ready to shoot me,” Ford said. “I said thank God for my guardian angels.”

Keep him in jail, pieces a piece of...

The deputies didnt find the weapon, but when they left, Ford found it and they returned? There is something terribly wrong about that if it is true or false.

a few feet away???

Way to "search", deputies! Excellent work!

Good job Jim! I am glad you are okay, and yes its odd that the gun could not be found until later......

These good neighbors should be granted an emergency restraining order against this maniac. He should not be allowed to return to the community to continue his terrorism ....give him 50 lashes, stick him on an old mule, direction, Oakland.

If this guy makes bail and returns to your residence Jim Ford, it's a pretty good bet that he's not there to apologize for trying to kill you! You had best be prepared to take appropriate action if/when he returns.
