The good news started flowing when Placer High won the coin toss Friday night at LeFebvre Stadium. It didn’t stop until well after the final whistle of the Hillmen’s 57-20 romp over Foothill in their Sac-Joaquin Section playoff opener. The Hillmen catapulted to a 14-0 lead before the Mustangs even touched the ball. Third-seeded Placer dominated throughout and then got a cherry on top of its sundae after the game. As players and fans lingered on the field, Placer public address announcer Bob Burge provided updates from Dixon, where Calaveras stunned the No. 2 seed 18-14. The upset means Placer (10-1) will host Calaveras (7-4) in the second round of the Division IV playoffs on Friday. "This hasn’t happened in over 20 years, so to have two playoff games at home, that’s awesome," Placer senior Jake Styler said. The Mustangs looked the part with their imposing size, including 220-pound running back Shavonce Raiford. But Placer had its way on both sides of the ball, building a 43-0 halftime lead. “We were hoping we could power up on them and get some downhill running, especially on a field that we didn’t think was going to be in very good condition,” Foothill coach Allen Berg said. “But they manned up and dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Obviously that didn’t go the way we wanted it to.” Junior Collin Burnett passed for 225 first-half yards while Asher Gotzmer and Josh Turney scored three touchdowns apiece to pace Placer. Turney finished with a game-high 120 rushing yards as the Hillmen could do no wrong offensively. They did not have to punt and a second-half fumble with the second string in was their only mishap of the evening. “We knew they were solid all the way around and they proved it tonight,” Berg said. On their first drive, the Hillmen went 65 yards in six plays as Josh Turney cashed in with a 2-yard TD run. Cameron Southward then dribbled an onside kick and pounced on it himself. One play later, Southtward hauled in a 51-yard TD pass from Burnett. "We had that in the gameplan at the start of the week after watching film on them," Placer coach Joey Montoya said. "We knew if we could jump on them early, that would force them out of their game plan." Gotzmer added a 46-yard TD run after a Foothill three-and-out. The Mustangs’ only scoring opportunity came late in the first quarter when they missed badly on a 31-yard field goal attempt. The Hillmen answered with a Turney 10-yard TD run. Junior Evan Staton improvised on the extra-point attempt, throwing to Brett Lenz for a nifty two-point conversion. Many of the Placer seniors were part of the squad that stunned powerful Oakdale on the road to open the playoffs last season – a win that signaled Placer’s return to prominence on the gridiron. The Hillmen made this year’s playoff debut look easy. “I expected it to be a good game,” senior Jake Turney said. “They looked really good on film. We just played Hillmen football — we went 150 percent the whole way. It was great to see everyone get in and just be able to cheer them on.” The Hillmen will host the Redskins Friday at 7 p.m. Calaveras finished second in the Mother Lode League and has won five of six games after starting the season 2-3, including a 9-0 loss to Bear River.

congrats Hillmen keep it rolling
I know this might sound silly, but is there any way we can still play DO and beat the snot out of them? Its been 5 years since I graduated, but I will never ever forget how much we hated their football team. Go Hillmen!
Great job, Hillmen!!
I'm a 1993 grad, and it's so nice to see the team have a great season again. Keep it up!!!
Congrats Hillmen on your win. Good luck next week against Calaveras. Looks like Whit won't get a chance to play Lincoln again...Been great playing with you guys in the PVL...take it all the way for a section title.
It was a wonderful game with our line just too quick for Foothill. Our entire team played with great heart. We have a superb coaching staff and wonderful group of young men with a great attitude. These are adults and young men that we can really be very proud of. Also it was great to see Randy Fee's mens cross country team who are District Champions honored. Everyone, the band, cheerleaders, students and fans should be very proud of the spirt and sportsmanship we demonstrate. I am proud to be a 30 year Hillman supporter.

The Sac Bee web site lists the score as of 11:25 pm as: Foothill 45 and Placer 10. http://www.sacbee.com/1217 Obviously someone's playing a prank. I called the Bee and they have the correct score.. but the person said they'd WOULD notify someone.... they don't want to change it NOW. Stupid.
Way to go Hillmen! Congratulations all around!
Congratulations to ALL of you...great game! Looking for a repeat next week! Go Hillmen!!!
What keyon, love for Placer but not for LIncoln on their win? It just pains you doesnt it. Yeah, you can call Placer a good team and they are very good, but god forbid you should admit that about LIncoln eh? A Placer v LIncoln rematch is what it should be anyhow. 2 good teams playing it out on the fiield, instead of 1 good team and a team of sore losers. Guess which one whitney is?
Great Game Hillman! Here is the link to vote for Dalton. He is up for The Rudy Award. Great story, Great KID! Tailgate party before next weeks game.....http://highschoolrudyawards.com/nominees/119/nominee.aspx?pid=119
Way to GO HILLMEN. The one improvement that could be made is to fill the stands next week. Come on Auburn, turn out to support this outstanding team and get a glimps of what is our Hillmen Football Future. Bring a friend and make some noise!

As a Placer High Teacher, Parent, and Fan, of 42 Years, I believe that this Playoff Game performance by the Hillmen, against Foothill, was one of the very best that I've seen. I was there in 1980, when the Hillmen, including my son, Scott, went undefeated, and soundly beat a strong Ponderosa Team. Last night's Hillman performance rates right up there with the best.
Go Hillmen - Keep up the great work. - Jim Ditty
wow! you guys made that look easy.you dominated,i shouldn't mention destiny, because you must take one game at a time;but you certainly deserve these results of your hard work.what happened to their size and power against our "d"? superior team play and unity;again you guys dominated!offensively, like a hot knife through soft butter.great job "o"line, good hard running by all 3 studs.but the passing game - money! collin to asher and cameron is becoming the greatest show on turf, grass,or mud.and to our coaches, great job.superior game plan and superior evaluation of film and the others tendencies.hey auburn community, what the heck?so, your telling me that the national weather service forecast scared you away;really!the hard core fans were there and they made noise;but the stands were 33% empty.it's been 20 some years, that was embarrassing!the boys should look up and see us packed in;full house.thankfully, we have another home game. bring an umbrella, snow gear,a big blanket, whatever;the team deserves better support. HILLMEN TEAM 2009 - I THINK I SPEAK FOR ALL HARD CORE FANS - WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU.KEEP ROLLING,NONE OF US WANTS IT TO END. "DESTINY" BABY - THEIR I SAID IT AGAIN.
In the words of Coach Wallace, " WE GOT A TEAM" Gotta love Hillman Football. Cant wait for next week, more football, band, cheer, dance, and MORE FANS. Come on folks, fill the stands. PHSJAZZ1978
Just got back home and to a computer after last night's game. Great win Placer. What a treat it was to be able to watch a playoff game at home for a change.
That being said, it was very disappointing to look around the stands and see so many empty seats. I am embarrassed for Auburn and all the Placer fans today with that poor showing of support for our boys. First home playoff game in 29 years, the Hillmen in the midst of a great season, all the local excitement leading up to the game.........then all the no-shows. The team, coaches, and school deserve better.
Let's not let it happen two weeks in a row. No excuses. I don't care if it is snowing next Fri night. Get out there and support these young men.
Enjoy your win this weekend, then go out and have a good week of practice. Can't wait to watch you all again vs. Calaveras.
KEEP VOTING FOR DALTON!!!! http://highschoolrudyawards.com/nominees/119/nominee.aspx?pid=119
READ THE STORY. GO HILLMEN, CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!
Just voted for Dalton! What an inspiring young man! Best of luck!
Dalton just got my first vote - #12636---what's your #? Good Luck Dalton!
You can vote for Dalton once every hour...
Good Luck Dalton and Can't Wait For Friday Night!! GO HILLMEN
Thanks diehardzebfan
Well... Well ...Well... The Hillmen had a bad turn out. Placer should have a cake walk against Calaveras. As they upset Dixon on Friday with a squeeker. The Zebras have their hands full with the 9-2 Sonora Wildcats on Friday.. Hopefully both PVL teams come out with a win and we will meet again in Lincoln. As far as turn out ,the fair weather fans of auburn better show up. You might need them.
Just looking ahead and dangerously predicting, ATitaniumCranium

Great article on Dalton in the Sac Bee.
This could have been a reason for the poor showing on Friday. Posted friday morning in the journal
Weather: Rain showers possible during the game, which will be played whatever the weather. Nighttime temperature will drop to lows of 31 to 41 degrees. Winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Who cares... get to the game.
Auburn, come on we can do better this Friday! It's sad when the players notice the lack of fans for a play off game. Come out to see some kids who have it going on. The band is probably one of the best in years and the cheerleaders give the game it's spark. The team appreciates the support of the community. If you did not attend you missed a spectacular half time show and the game was pretty good too!
Let's be there for these kids who pour their hearts and time into these activities. Let's celebrate these kids who are doing something positive for their school and for themselves.
Thanks all again who came, who yelled and who shared in the victory. Let's do it up BIG this Friday. Tail gaters.....Noise.......
GO HILLMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can you expect anyone to actually be at the game when all the Hillmen fans are posting comments?
