He can’t wait for 2012
Reader Input

It’s become increasingly obvious that legislators in Washington, D.C. are totally insane. After all the trillions of waste including a proposed health care oligarchy, there’s more and worse yet to come.

The latest proof of D.C. insanity is a proposed $3,500 “tax break for pet owners.” I know insanity takes many forms, but this is reaching.

As a veteran peace officer, I sometimes dealt with people who were on heavy doses of psycho-active medications. They were generally much more lucid than some of our so-called “legislators.”

My bumper sticker reads, “It took Jimmy Carter to give us a Ronald Reagan. I can’t wait for 2012!”

I’m also encouraged 2010 is even closer to issue ballot box warnings and effect the expulsion of “D.C. demented” legislators.

Unless you actually cite which bill this is allegedly in, (which is probably never going to get out of committee anyway) this is just more ridiculous rumor from the Republican Party.

Hey Rocky,

Is that $3,500 per pet or is it aggregate, and do cows qualify? I will switch from marketing "beef cattle" to pet "pet cattle".

My new slogan "Cow's... the pet you can eat!" or maybe this "Cow... the pet it pays to eat". I'll print up bumper stickers like "Have you hugged your Hereford today?" or "Cows, mans best friend... until dinner".

I will make a million dollars in this downturned economy! Who said the American dream is dead?

Born here, but if you switch to pet cows you may have to start paying sales tax on hay.

I have the samr questions is it per pet or one price no matter how many you have. Do horses qualify? My wife thinks they're pets. Keep this going, I'm all for free money after having paid taxes for so many years I welcome any gifts from my government.

I guess pet owners will vote for Obama on 2012 in return for that great donation. Now, that's what I call stimulus. Wait, I wonder if the money must go to prepaid health care for pets?

If you eat it, you don't have to pay sales tax on feed.

Loomis. The bill is being proposed by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich. Sounds like something Palin, Guliani, et all, will be endorsing. Dem's proposing Tax Cuts? Come on :)

Rocky actually knew this was proposed by a Republican Congressman, otherwise he'd never have passed up an opportunity to take a swipe at a Dem.

It's being coined as the HAPPY bill.

loomis and jongreen,

I realize the downside of switching cows to pets is paying taxes, but they have already regulated the ag industry so much we don't make any money. Have you seen what they pay for some of the dogs in the classifieds? I average between $5-600 per calf at weining weight of 600 lbs. and you can eat for a year when the calf matures. Then I see puppies go for $1500.00, and you can't even make a good stew, or a few taco's out of a puppy.

Remember: "Cows...the pet you can eat!" or "Cow's... Man's best friend until dinner" or "Cow's... not as loyal as a dog, but better tasting!"

Born_Here...I am in..my sheep all have names and they taste better every year being organic and all........send me the money too!

Cheney - Palin 2012. com, I just cant wait.

Have any of you bothered to check that in the last 29 years the Repub's have held the White House for 20 of them?

It never ceases to amaze me at the arrogance of this group think crowd that somehow they are owed the W.H. Lets not forget Newt's efforts in Congress ... there's a twelve year stretch where they tried to dismantle every regulation, undermine the Constitution, pad their pockets.

Twenty years and you guys haven't been able to break it yet .... but I have to give it you .... you haven't given up.

And now you rail against a guy who hasn't been in office a year yet. Just like Carter ... a Dem has to come in to clean up a Rethugs mess. Man I get tired of the constant belly aching. What a bunch of whiners.

Born_Here, The smart 4H kids raise rabbits, chickens, and turkeys for auction. The profit margin is tremendous. One of the happiest days of my life was when my daughter sold her angus steer and auction and made $25.00 for almost a year's work. I wonder if some of the cultures that eat dogs and horses could claim a sales tax break on horse and dog food.

I wouldn't be so cocky that Republicans are going to make some type of clean sweep in the elections. Has it occurred to you that maybe people finally have grown tired of the duopoly and the games they continue to play? If you think the health care debate will win the votes back, think again. People may be unhappy with what the Dems are coming up with but I suspect they won't forget that Republicans did nothing but protest without ever fixing the problem when they had the chance nor did they come up with a solution when it's been clear Americans want the matter resolved. You may be a majority in Placer Co but I wouldn't let your little microcosm here give you a false sense of comfort that your party will rise to victory from the ashes. Conservatives are losing on an international level . There has been a global shift. I feel that many can agree with numerous conservative views, it's just that you are so heavy handed with them. Contempt for the plight of your fellow man when the world is crashing around our ears doesn't exactly win you their votes.

Third party, all the way, or none of the above. D's and R's have had plenty of chances, where they should come together they don't, and where they should stand firm they don't, so they both deserve to be voted out.

I'd like to add - Democrats have shifted more towards what could be considered conservative policies. This is to the consternation of many liberals, but in reality from a political standpoint, it's what's helped them gain the power they now possess. You bemoan the shift of Republicans towards more liberal policy, but the fact of the matter is you pretty much have to in order to survive. At the same time, it highlights what many here have said and what more are realizing - there is very little difference between the two parties. Obama's campaign was brilliant in that he gave the impression of a reasonable balance between the two. However, if anyone had bothered to look at his voting record they would have seen that some of his speeches would have had to indicate a complete reversal of thought.

And lastly, as I predicted, there is much bellyaching from the right regarding policies that are merely a continuation of policies of the Bush Administration, which, when pointed out to you, you had no problem with, in fact, you vehemently supported them. Of course Obama continued these, what President in his right mind would reverse the extraordinary powers gained from the previous administration? What I find equally troubling and hypocritical however is that liberals don't seem to feel it's as much of an issue as they did. I'm mostly speaking of issues like the Patriot Act and the attempts to control media and stifle the impact of protest.

kittyv

well written, reasoned post... but I doubt your points will be heard or much less understood by the hard right.

One other policy you didn't mention was the continuation of bank bailouts.

Kittyv: How are the health care bills; cap and trade; federal court trials for terrorists, etc. shifting the democrats towards "what could be considered conservative policies"? The fact that we are stuck in a war(s) and have no logical choice but to continue the war(s), the patriot act, Gitmo, etc. does not represent a shift in policy, just a begrudging and belated recognition of reality.(in part anyway).

My prediction is that you will see the more conservative of the republican candidates winning as opposed to the "McCain" type candidates in the next election cycle(s).

chrishamm has the proper rebuttal to the letter. Warren dishonestly implies that this bill is of the Democrats' making when it's a Republican who's sponsoring it...then uses the issue as a jumping off point to smear the Dems.

Rocky, it's quite likely you'll be disappointed in 2012 , but go ahead & enjoy your fantasy for the next 3 years...talk about a rude awakening.

Germany, France, UK all led by conservatives. Europeans are finally realizing that socialism does not work.

chriss, I didn't say tax cuts, I meant give aways, the Dems are very good at it, just look how they are proposing to buy the elder vote by giving them $250.00. I didn't realize that Palin and Giuliani could vote on bills, is that something new? How can you voter on a bill if you're not a member of either house. Heck man, you can do better than that.

Jon, if born here calls his cattle pets he wouldn't eat them or sell them for food, PETA would come after him. I once heard someone say that there were no horses in Placer County, everyone has the tax free livestock.

Ok, first of all I don't know a thing about this bill, I just tried to inject some humor. The result? I think conservatives have a better sense of humor than liberals. It was all in fun, at least on my part.

Seriously now, can anyone tell me waht the bill says. Is the $3500.00 rebate or whatever for real?

Loomis, yes you tried to inject humor :) Since when does endorse mean vote? (Guiliani and Palin).

If you endorse a candidate or a proposed Bill is that voting? Don't think about that one too long, it's a no.

If it's a Republican sponsored bill, why would pet owners vote for Obama? They might like Obama because he has a Portuguese

water dog, but every President since the dawn of time has had a dog in the White House. Even Bush had Carl Rove :)))))

See Centrists do have a sense of humor, we just don't write tripe about Drunk Driving arrests.

Loomis, to quote you "Heck man you can do better than that" :) Enjoy your weekend, and the clean fresh air, from our much needed rain.

Chrishamm if you are a centrist that makes Canyon Rat the same. In fact it appears that you pen words for Ron Lowe. If you don't get a kick out of this, it has to be your ideology getting in the way.

Born_Here? Right on! I got the joke as you got mine. Not being partisan here. Just telling it like it is.

Cattle, sheep, goats and chickens as pets? I like it! When I see a "Guide Chicken" in a store, I'll know we've arrived at utopia!

I penned this LTE some time back trying to heap scorn on a ridiculous idea. As I will always do whether penned by Republican or Democrat. Neither has a corner on pure, unadulterated stupidity. I also replied just as sharply when the asinine City Council of Denver changed regulations stating no one "owned" pets. Everyone is instead a "pet guardian." (Big wet sigh and an "awww," from PETA people!)

Beg Pardon? Denver's wasting time and money on tripe like this?

I want all these Congress people both at State and Federal level out of office. We can't do it in one election cycle, but we can in three. Dem, Repubs, all of them. Out of the Pool of Pork and Perks that elected office has become!

Now with a 12 Trillion dollar national deficit and the Senate poised to pull the trigger to add 2 Trillion, as well as all the other issues people are ticked off about...the elections in 2010 might just surprise you. Tea Parties are being vastly under-reported and underestimated by the MSM and government, but Democrats and Independents, as well as Republicans are attending in ever larger numbers.

People are finally realizing. "Change" headed in the wrong direction, isn't a good thing.

I'll keep my bumper stickerand look for Born_Here's too.
