Man arrested almost two years after sexual assault
Backlog delayed testing of DNA evidence
Ladd Douglas Wiidanen

An alleged attacker is in jail almost two years after he reportedly sexually assaulted another man.

Ladd Douglas Wiidanen, 41, of Rocklin, was arrested Thursday morning after DNA tests linked him to a sexual assault at a New Year’s Day party in 2008.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, a 27-year-old male victim reportedly woke up “out of dead sleep” to find a male sexually assaulting him, according to Rocklin Police Dept. Lt. Lon Milka.

The victim reportedly was from out of town and came to attend a party at a Rocklin home on the 5400 block of Quane Road.

Wiidanen was reportedly from the neighborhood and attended the party earlier in the evening, Milka said.

Investigators collected DNA evidence from the victim and Wiidanen and sent it for processing at the Department of Justice.

However, “due to a high volume of DNA processing requests,” the submitted evidence was not processed until this month, Milka said.

Milka said Rocklin Police detectives arrested Wiidanen after they received the results.

Wiidanen was booked into Placer County Jail on a felony charge of oral copulation with an unconscious victim and another felony charge of sexual battery.

He is currently held on $150,000 bail.

This is wrong on so many levels. Wow

I am with you Jammin, messed up dude.

I surprised that the righteous ones haven't yet started pounding on this...they'll be here soon, I'm sure. Maybe they're to busy bashing Obama and health care and the homeless to give a damn.

jab1pc - Maybe you can invite him over to your place after you pay his bail. Have fun!

user: that comment makes you one of the righteous...congratulations.

jab 1pc, you use the word righteous as if it's a bad thing. I find it interesting that you are trying to make a political statement out of a sexual assault. You have no class and an obvious prejudice.

Enderr...."righteous" IS a bad thing, because it usually means, "SELF-righteous". Or santimonious. Jab1pc was right on the money with the original comment. The religious right was bound to show up here to pass judgement. You and username are only the first two of many. So what's your verdict? The victim was asking for it?

enderr: If this thread remains civil, I will gladly retract the statement.

Sexual assaults are always about violence and control. They are not about either hetro or gay sex. This perp is a criminal and it's probably not the first time he has done this crime. Is this comment self righteous? Is this comment political? I think not.

Jabipc,

PS: Your comment might have been a little "Premature".

JonGreen: perhaps, and I'm hoping completely unwarranted

Google his name, I dont think id want him doing my taxes....and it took 2 years to test the DNA? Instead of spending $587,000 on additional CHP for our "public safety" DNA testing would be a much better expenditure, to actually capture criminals.

Auburnite. I think you cod take an article about quilts and somehow spin it to post something negative about law enforcement. WE GET IT AUBURNITE! We know you hate cops. Yes, auburnite they are all terrible yada yada yada. But you must admit hey are better than you in one aspect. They HAVE a job and pay taxes instead of sitting home and collecting government checks like you do. Go get a frickin job.

Harleyrider, your ignorance and judgmental comments never fail to amuse me, please do keep them up!

Nickelbag & jab1pc, I would much rathe condem sexual assault then be considered "enlightened" and endorse sexual crimes.

Auburnite. Ignorant? You admit to being unemployed. That's your own admission. I didn't make it up. So let's look at the facts. You have been unemployed, for quite some time, yet you find plenty of time to sit on the Internet (via my $ via your government check that I pay for) and makes idiotic posts all day long. So yes, I'll continue to respond to your juvenile postings. I figure it's my right since my tax dollars pay for your Internet, pizzas, mcdonalds, playstation, etc.

Whatcha got planned today? Looking for a job? Didn't think so.

Realist and others: No one here is endorsing sexual crimes. And I would add that DNA from the 2 people involved may suggest crime but does not prove crime. The jury will be decide if the "alleged attacker" is guilty of a crime. Paraphrased from an earlier post, if this thread maintains a level of civility I will very gladly retract my earlier comment.

um....the cops don't test DNA, they submit samples to a crime lab, such as DOJ. DOJ is trying to contend with a huge backlog of DNA that resulted from legislation to test all felons and submit all state prison inmates DNA into a nationwide database....but in thier infinite wisdom, the state didn't legislate adequate funding or staffing to accomodate this. Additionally, prosecutors increasingly rely on DNA for prosecution and more sample are submitted on cases than ever before...placing a larger burden on an already burdened system.

No wonder this victim had to wait two years. Private labs are available that can turn around DNA in weeks, but it costs money, whereas....DOJ is free. For now...that may change.

just wrong !!!!! & he has been running around for 2 years just ewww who knows what else he's done in that time

I am with LocalGirl on this one; EWWWW! What a way to wake up after a party! He had to be a suspect all this time too! But who knows maybe he said yes in his sleep. (kidding) I am still amazed how sidetracked these posts get on any subject. Makes for fun reading.

Poor man, look into his eyes. He was probably mistreated as a child and now can only find solace raping sleeping men. How sad.... (SARCASM)

It seems that there are two distinct groups of people on these forums. One is the regular reader who makes reasonable comments about stories and uses pertinent information to make their case. They are the majority of the population. Then there are the other people who are just waiting for their nemesis to say something they dont like, or heaven forbid, might have a grammatical error, and use these forums to just attack them. Its liberals and conservatives that do it, nobody more than the other. If people want to talk about whats wrong with this country, I would say these forums are a perfect example of it; the hyper-politicization of every story. We can do better guys. Lets all just agree that this guy is absolutely disgusting and deserves his day in front of a judge (hopefully a very unsympathetic judge who is having a bad day:)

"running around for 2 years", obviously guilty...Do I really need to add to this? I know nothing about what happened other than what I read in the article.....nor does any one else who's posted here.

JamminJahMon I couldnt agree with you more....

JJMon, that put the issue rather nicely! By even having to discuss many political issues by "which side" are you on leaves many afraid to even mention what they feel. I like when both sides post links I can follow up and make my own decisions but then you hear that even those links are suspect. Again, it doesn't matter which side you look at. Plus the media can put any spin on any issue, then who do you believe? (note: I am not saying any particular media or particular spin or group)

Guess auburnite had my post removed because I called him for what he was. No profanity or inappropriateness. Just truth. Truth hurts.

Nicklbag... get a clue. righteous means righteous. Self righteous is something else. You are being extremely prejudiced trying to turn a sexual assault into an anti religious political statement. You must be one of the tolerant. John Green is 100% right about sexual assaults. Jab1pc, I appreciate the effort to turn this to a civil discussion. Bigotry like nicklbag's shouldn't distract from a sexual assault. I have worked with many victims of sexual assault. It is a horrible thing. 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted and a few less men. The statistics for men are harder to come by due to under reporting. Auburn is no exception. Statistically an offender assaults 10 people before he is caught the first time. What is really scary is that there is no way to tell a sexual predator from anyone else. They blend into society better than any other type of criminal. They come from all walks of life, both the right and the left. They can be employed or transient, teachers, priests, tree huggers, or atheists. This issue should be off limits to politics.

enderr: I made a political and religious issue out of this from the start...I shouldn't have done that. I'm afraid I wasn't being very imaginative in describing the direction I expected this post to take.

Jammin J: On point!! These always seem to digress into same rhetoric and frankly, it's a bit of a bore.

I heard a saying once and I am trying my best to remember it now as my memory seems to have been clouded over. Now what was it..."if you don't have anything nice to say, say something horrible? No...that's not it. Nothing nice to say, demean somebody? No, No...definitely not it. I REMEMBER NOW!!! If you dont have anything nice to say, then blog it in the Auburn Journal!!! Yeah...that was it.

I know you did jab, but you came around quickly. I appreciate that.

Jammingjahmon, well said. Thank you.
