Families become forever at Adoption Day
Seventh annual event celebrates adoptions
Bill Dober said this Saturday it will feel like “mission completed.” Dober, a permanency social worker with Sierra Forever Families, will watch as several families finalize their adoption papers at the Historic Courthouse in Auburn as part of Adoption Day in Placer County. “That’s probably the greatest joy that this job presents to me is creating a forever family,” Dober said. “Seeing that day when there’s permanency established and they leave there as a family.” The annual event, now its seventh year, celebrates local adoptions and is in spirit with National Adoption Awareness Month. The community is invited to be a part of the party that lasts from 9 to 11 a.m. and includes coffee and breakfast provided by Starbucks, music, crafts and an appearance from the Sacramento River Cat’s mascot Dinger. But the highlight for many will be seeing several children who have been in the county’s foster care program go home with their new families. Donna Aleccia, who does community outreach for Placer Kids, said for the past three years she’s watched the heartwarming day unfold. Placer Kids, which is part of Sierra Forever Families, works with Placer County’s Children System of Care to place kids in the foster system with permanent families. “It’s just a beautiful thing to see the joy on the family’s face and on the children’s face,” Aleccia said. “They go through a long process to get to this point and it’s a big celebration.” Jenifer Gee can be reached at jeniferg@goldcountrymedia.com.

I agree 100% w/ Analyst. It does not take a whole lot of effort on the birth mothers part. Normal things like not taking drugs, safe home environment, obey the law... The children deserve a happy stable life.
I agree with Analyst and BayAreaNative. May the new families be blessed with happiness.
There are so many steps to the process of permanent removal of parental rights. The mothers that you refer to Michelle have been given ample opportunity to make things right in their lives.
