Streetscape committee to weigh in on signage
The newly formed Streetscape History and Art Advisory Committee could take action on interpretive signs that will be located in the Phase 1 Streetscape area Wednesday. Proposed signage contains historic photos and information about Central Square, First Congregational Church and endurance events. The signs would be 2- by 3-feet in size. The committee will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 10 of City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way in Auburn. The public is invited to attend. Other agenda items include a presentation of Auburn’s history and discussion of future meeting days and times. ~ Michelle Miller-Carl

Come on guys, the place already looks like an engineers nightmare Big block tower and I mean big, sidewalks with choke points, that take up limited parking, Giant statues to themselves. Maybe the city should use redevelopment monies and build a parking garage. Honestly folks, the "Advisory Committee"s are putting special interest before reason. They've gone mad I tell you.
ChuxxR,
I think the signage they are refering to are about the size of historical landmark signs? If they place them right I don't think it will look too bad? But you are right some of the stuff they have already done is a bit "over the top".
Patience, people. There will be plenty of time to complain properly once this thing is completed. It's too late to do anything about the plan they're already implementing, and complaining now seems silly.
I like that parking garage idea, though, and I'd like it to be underground if possible. We've seen the one in Placerville and it sucks! It sucks to look at, that is. But I'll bet it does a great deal to alleviate parking problems for their downtown merchants.
I was taught it was never to late. That is what the count on just wear the people down. You have to keep them jumping from one foot to the other. If they want to celebrate what made Auburn unique why not keep it that way? I love the olld Auburn and Old town too.
any changes now would cost money and delay this, Just get it done!!
So, why bother to have the meetings? The redevelopment funds need to be used for the public good, not for someones vanity. We only need one endurance statue. My vote goes to Gordon Ainsleigh, he started the endurance race. Oh and Wendell Robie. Hopefully any statues made are not the really expensive bronze type.
Why do we need a statue of anyone? But if we do why not make it deserving: The whole mess started with the city manager, why not make the statue of him with a pigeon on his head, representing the taxpayer.
