Construction miffs new resident
Reader Input

My husband and I recently moved within Auburn’s city limits.

Now I see on a daily basis the mid-town construction “folly” (and realize we’re paying taxes for this type of “necessity”).

Did anyone in the city government. (elected or administrative) consider the financial impact on the local businesses in the area? And now it’s almost the Christmas season and what’s going to happen to that business?

It’s as if the city is determined to bite the very hand (or a good part of it) that feeds us.

Old news, already beaten into the ground. To late to matter anymore.

Today must be resurrection day, all the topics that have been beaten to the ground seem to be popping up. I wonder if we'll have any Pit Bull letters.

Thank you raiderdave7 and lr. Wheres the story of the Placer County Sheriff in Rocklin who got pulled over Sat.morning for a DUI? 4 times over the limit. This was 9am Saturday morning. This would be a good case to follow because of the "Good Ole Boy" politics in Placer County.

Dead horse.... Wow.. they want kids to hunt deer! Next,,,,,

Oh... Dam it.. another one....

Exactly, how come I have to go to bee for info on the drunk sherrif. I would think the Journal would jump all over this one!

The story is hidden right next to the one about the shooting lieutenant. No biggie, they are both on active duty and the investigations will be completed sometime in 2019. Low priority, you know.

OughMG: Hasn't this issue been beaten into the ground already?

i was just a day ago when i was talking to a man who was walking his pitbull downtown. He was outside the pawnshop waiting for his kid to pick out a hunting bow. They had plans to stop into the bookstore on the corner to find a tome on deer hunting. He told me they had to stop into Wildfire to get a thank you card for the DFG before having a slice at the pizza place around the corner. I suggested a frozen yogurt after the pizza and he agreed that it would be a nice finish to lunch. He commented that is was amazing that he could do all of those things right in downtown and watch the streetscape come together. He thought it looked really nice and couldn't wait to come and warm himself and his dog at the firepit. I said that will become a great place to discuss the local news, especially stories about local law enforcement types who seem to be in the Sac Bee lately.

fromdownthehill, don't forget the wonderful venison BBQ that they can have at the fire pit

LR- if the 2 incidents are even investigated at all.

Did they consider the financial impact on local businesses ?

Uh, no. See "Lincolnizing."

This has been a simple answer to a simple question. You're welcome.

Everything was worked out with the Downtown Business Association. They helped select the timing of this much need work to help repair the infrastructure. We all knew there would be inconveniences and have done our best to mitigate them.

Dr Bill Kirby

Auburn City Council

Oh, come on Doc, now you're dispelling all those convenient, er, um, reasons for allowing the City to spend our tax dollars on this useless improvement. Never mind the fact that the revenue being used was a grant that could only be spent on this type project.

At least Allen Cassidy has given it a rest...........for a while............I hope. ;-) Unless Sara..........no.......sorry.

Sara,

The only hand that was bitten belonged to Jo Jo.

I hope this drum keeps on getting beat. The Streetscape project phase one is costing approximately $2 million +. This is 10% of what the powers that be intend to spend in the future on the same type of burning tax dollars under the claim of bringing revenue to town. In actuality this money could be used for redevelopment without all the needless bells and whistles at a smidgen of the costs.

fourgen,

In that same vein.......this streetscape project could be done exactly the same way, probably by the same company who is now performing the work, AND at a huge savings IF the law did not require public work to be performed at the highest wage rate possible. ALL public work is required to be done paying union wages to ALL workers.

There is no good reason for this condition to continue, especially now that our state and federal governments are in dire straights financially.

The public gets screwed again, and again, and again.

We are all feeling the negative forces of a down market. There's no good reason the taxpayers should be forced to pay the HIGHEST price for a service that could be done for less.

I'm looking forward to the improvements that this streetscape project will offer, but I know we could have had these improvements at a significantly lower cost if we weren't forced to pay more for the work than was reasonable.

So when is the deer hunt going to take place, I'm waiting for the venison BBQ and then we can feed the left overs to the Pit Bull that run around the city, you know if they are well fed they won't attack people. Then we use the tower to post signs for and against the Auburn Dam but not to worry, it won't last long, we just have to wait until some drunk driver hits it while being chased by Auburn Police after the Black and White Ball.

OK, did I leave any topic out?

Everyone, have a great day.

I absolurley agree that Prevailing wage rules are helping destroy the bubgets of governments and should be abolished.

Dr Bill Kirby

greg and Dr. Kirby, it will never happen until we elect officials that are not owned by labor unions.

loomis,

Our entire state runs on the union wage and the unions have been unwilling, until lately, to make any concessions.

Once the State does go completely broke Democrats will point their crooked fingers at Republicans for not going along with a tax increase. If it weren't so serious it would be laughable.
