Getting ahead of ourselves in football brackets
How would Oak Ridge in a playoff matchup with Nevada Union?

The teams will all take the same position - we play the game that is in front of us and do not look ahead.

That does not stop fans from speculating, however.  We know you have looked at the brackets and thought about what could be down the road. What kind of game would Del Oro give unbeaten St. Mary's? How great would it be to see Whitney face Lincoln once again? How does Granite Bay compare to the team on the far side of the lake in Folsom? Can Oak Ridge get past Nevada Union?

Even further down the road are possible all-PVL matchups in the Division IVA final and any number of teams trying to run with Grant.

For today, our poll focuses just on possible second-round matchups that involve teams in the general area we cover at Placer Sports. We would love your thoughts on which of these you would most like to see. Jump over to www.placersports.com and vote in our poll, and then bounce down to the comments section on the poll and tell us why, or perhaps share with us the matchup we did not include that jumps out at you.

It looks like Lincoln and Rocklin have the horses to go all the way this year. "Do or die" time is always more exciting.

Easy DV, the whtney head strokers, who are each others biggest fans, might chastize you for posting such comments. GO ZEEBS!

Brackets schmackets! The key is to get in the playoffs. You have to win all the games anyway, second place is meaningless. Plenty of teams have a shot this year. Go Del Oro!

The real story is that Milke Alberghiini intially complained to Saco that based on SJS seeding system Grant probably would not be seeded #1 as he thought they should be. Saco wanted to appease Alberghini so although Rocklin was rightfully seeded above Grant, Saco wanted to appease the outraged Alberghini. It was the SJS's idea to appease Grant by moving the game from Rocklin to a neutral field. Al certainly liked that idea, and with pressure from Saco, the SJS got the Rocklin coaching staff to agree. This has not been doen for any other team in Ca. Otrher Sections did their seedings and stuck by them with the higher seed the host team. Alberghini has a past history of not wanting to abide by the rules. In the 2005 City Championshiip game Alberghin was thrown out of the game by the officials and had to leave the field ifollowing a curse laden tantrum. According to CIF/SJS rules it was mandatory he sit out the next game. Alberghini complained to Saco and he did not have sit out the next game even though a complaint was lodged with Saco over this action. Grant played a weak '09 schedule and should be the #3 seed amd should play any game between them and Rocklin in the playoffs at Rocklin regardless of the field's condition. The fact that various polls have Grant rankied very high only shows that they know little about this year's Pacer team. Rocklin is a far superior team and has been tested by really tough competition. Shame! Shame!

Fear not buckeye3, superiority will soon be shown at the only place it counts - the football field! All this brackets and sites and seeding stuff is meaningless; what counts is what the players do on the field with their helmets and shoulder pads. Block and tackle like your life depended on it and you might win - anything else and you're done. In this playoff situation there are too many good teams to allow any slackness in your approach. There's a Japanese proverb against complacency that I like: "In the hour of victory, fasten your helmet strap."

While it was nice to see Grant win the "big one" last year and show that someplace besides the L.A. or S.F. areas have good football, it would be even better to see Rockling crush the Pacers and show that the boys from the "sticks" can play with the best, too.

That said, I think Grant is better than you are giving them credit for. And who is that #1 seed that no one seems to care about? Another private "select" team?

DV: This private school/charter school thing has gotten out of hand. Any school that has open enrollment or grants scholarships for athletics ought to be classified in Division 1 no matter their enrollment.

Vanoosbree - touch'e!!!
