Kickin Chickens Must Wait for Final Egg to Hatch.....
The 49er Kickin Chickens were in control of their own destiny going into Saturdays doubleheader; one game against Fair Oaks and a nightcap against El Dorado Hills. The Defense showed up, as always, except for one sequence of events as the Fair Oaks striker drove through 5 defenders on the way to an unassisted goal. "I have not seen a goal like that given up since U10's," said Head Coach Russ Klug.
The offense that the Chickens had enjoyed for the previous few weeks unfortunately did not show up saturday. Amy Heyn, the sweeper, scored the days only goal for the Chickens on a free kick from 30 yards out. "Except for the first half of game 1, we had probably a 5 to 1 shot ratio vs the other teams, or better. Our girls just could not finish at the net. It has been our biggest issue off and on all year," said Asst Coach Bruce Mitchell.
As a result of two ties on this past Saturday, 1 to 1 and 0 to 0, the Kickin Chickens are forced to wait for the results of this next weeks Solano Strikers contest. With a win Solano will come out in first place. A tie or loss will give the 1st place slot to the Kickin Chickens.
"We have never been a lucky team. We only get what we scratch and claw for," said Klug. "It is very unfortunate that we are in a position to finish with zero losses and not come in first place. Very unlucky."
In Santa Cruz it was a goal taken away on a foul call away from the play, and late. Last night in El Dorado Hills it was a goal taken away on a questionable offside call. Both games those were the only times a ball hit the net in regulation, both times the calls went against the Kickin Chickens.
So the Kickin Chickens will wait, and if there is any karma out there for us from the events in Santa Cruz and Fort Bragg, we will come out on top........if we are lucky.
