Quit the Brown bashing
Reader Input

Tom Hudson needs to give it a rest, please! (Reader Input, Nov. 13.)

Enough is enough of your paranoid bashing of Charlie Brown, a man who served his country in the Air Force for 26 years, including having his helicopter shot down in Vietnam while on a rescue mission of our troops. His wife, Jan, also served in the military, as is their son now.

What the heck has Hudson done in his life to serve his country that makes him think he’s a better man than Charlie Brown? I can’t imagine he was ever in the military by the way he is demeaning one who did serve, and this after celebrating Veterans Day. What a shame!

I’m happy for Charlie Brown and glad for our country that a decent man and a true patriot, who served his country with distinction and honor as well as in battle, is going to be watching out for us in his new position with the Homeland Security Agency. I wish him well.

As for Hudson, it seems like all he can do is throw his little darts and rant and rave. I’m so sick of those who have nothing important to contribute to society for the greater good of all.

Looking at the numbers of people fleeing the Republican Party throughout our country, because of the behavior of people like Hudson, you’d think he’d get a clue!

Sooooooo, Charlie Brown, the democrat bombthrower and slayer of all things republican has been given a "job" in our Homeland Security Agency as a reward for his years of running for unsuccessfully for office and insulting the GOP? That's a good thing????

And those who disagree with charlie's methods and madness are supposed to just shut up and accept his "appointment" because he must be right because he served in our military?

Newflash: not all people who served in our military have the right motivations or "solutions" for this country.

It's a darn good thing we still have a fairly intact 1st Amendment.

Thanks Leslyle. Brown is a true patriot who risked his life time and again in the line of duty. The cretins who questioned his patriotism abused the First Amendment and even now revel in their own mendacity.

gulliver: I think that you can say Brown *was* a true patriot based upon his actions 39 years ago, but to extend him "permanent hero" status and ignore everything he has done to undermine our military since seems a bit too generous.

You are singing before the wrong crowd here.

We all know that he attended an anti-war rally where they hung our troops in effigy, and Brown was wearing his fatigues to symbolize that veterans support such things. Most veterans would not support such a thing.

While he is certainly not as bad as some other vets who have killed, or committed atrocious crimes, I think he has undermined his status as a hero for his actions after the war.

YS: You have one drum and you beat it over and over. Brown attended an event where several groups with different ideas about the Iraq war were present. So what? He did nothing to "undermine our military." He has sent his own son on multiple tours of duty to Iraq. He has supported veterans not only with his words, but with a percentage of the money raised during his campaigns for Congress.

Attack Brown's politica all you want, but do not attack his dedication and service to this country.

politics, not politica

gulliver: You are being somewhat loose with the facts. People saw him there, and he was not "observing" or in a "neutral" position. He was supporting the anti-war activists. Come on...be straight with the readers here.

"He has sent his own son on multiple tours of duty to Iraq" wow Gulliver, I thought we were still volunteering for the armed services. So what does daddy have to do with the sons service? Or does it just make daddy look better cause he is a democrat and a veteran?

Same old swiftboat garbage from Russo Marsh & Rogers/ Move America Forward.

Chickenpoop from Chickenhawks and the psy- opts wing of the Pentagon.

"where they hung our troops in effigy?"

No, where that dip whip San Francisco lawyer for Orrick set it up on his Sacramento rental house, so MAF could catch protestors. Doolittle used it and then McClintock used it, only McClintock was too cowardly to even debut the second round, and let Kaloogian, Deborah Johns, and Russo distribute their stupid advertisements for him.

Then Yo-Yo Swiftboatie Canada Joe kept repeating it over and over during the last campaign, complete with his own crude cartoons of Brown hanging.

Sounds like Yo - Yo takes his marching orders from Koo Koo Republican Kaloo.

This is McClintock's version of "communicating" with the masses.

Invading Iraq was wrong. There were no weapons of mass destruction, and there were not enough troops, and the planning for what was supposed to happen after the invasion was incompetent to the point that it is a mystery to me why Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld still walk around today as wealthy war profiteer beneficiaries of said incompetence instead of banished, for wasting so many lives on both sides.

Yosemite_Sam: Well, if what you say about Brown's beliefs about the military is correct, then I guess his fighting son would want to disown him by now, ha?

It is obvious that Leslye isn't partisan. She is just doing her job just as Hudson felt is was his opportunity to blast a democrat. So much divisivness has put this great country in peril.

Charlie has not sent his son on multiple tours of Iraq. That is the job of the military command that his son serves under. I appreciate all of those that support our military and have been members of the armed forces, including the Brown family. We have all made poor choices, I believe Charlies mis-step was that he was trying to be politically expediant in order to gain votes.

Charlie's decision to wear fatigues to a peace protest where a soldier hung in effigy, was atrocious. Especially if his son has served in combat. Did he bother to consider that effigy might as well be his son hanging there? The effigy represented him and all others in the military.

Charlie's decisions and positions on too many other issues are abhorrent. His stances on abortion, "climate change," border control, illegal immigration, medical, social and deficit spending, are all issues that hit my gag factor.

I'm a veteran. My son's served two combat tours and is awaiting orders for his third combat deployment within days. So, Leslye and gulliver, I guess I have the right to exercise my First Amendment? Do I need your permission to exercise the rights I and all other veterans fought to preserve? Is that correct?

Using your children's actions, valor and courage as a distraction from the fact that Charlie would be another rubber-stamp vote for the left is shameful. Veteran or not.

And Leslye? If you're really proud of what you write, identify yourself as President of the Auburn Area Demonocratic Club. (It was an intentional mis-spelling as a pun gulliver; you can unwind the knot in your drawers!) Your superiors, peers and predecessors in the Democrat party all identified themselves Leslye. Take full responsibliity for this. You own it. And you deserve it.

He wasn't wearing fatigues. Old jacket over jeans.

The entire thing was a set up by a Republican PR firm which takes Pentagon money from their office of outreach, (plus they are a government DOD contractor now) to manipulate the image of the anti war protesters as being unpatriotic. What part of "Doolittle's friends at the the Dept of Defense paid for the swiftboating advertisements" did you MISS ?

What part of Brown's reasons for having certain viewpoints did you miss? Obviously, ALL OF THEM. Abortion is none of your business. The military believes in climate change and is adapting to it. Only the Big Oil/Coal flunkies fight it at. Borders are already controlled yet the Repubs wanted to privatize it more with graft favors to Blackwater. His position on illegals was nearly identical to Reagan's. Medical- do insurance reform. Social. The government needs to think long term, not short term. Results, not blow hard. Deficit spending, reduce it.

This "gags" you ?

I don't care what hits your "gag " factor. You're just another partisan political bully that is using the Republican Party to hide behind. The Republican Party decided to make war on the civilians of the United States under the Bush administration. It deliberately flaunted the Constitution and broke the law. It paid foreign crooks to kidnap and sell people as terrorists, irregardless of guilt.

Thank God you and your ilk are out of power for now.

imothy mcVeigh also served in the military. He changed quite a bit after he got out, didn't he? And so did John Kerry, who shot an unarmed Viernamese in the back but later denouinced our troops as killers.

I guess we see what we want to see and what we don't, we just close our eyes.

LR: Did not Kerry get a medal for shooting that Kid?

CR: Your last rant was cool, I am just plain glad to see that Obama is continuing the Bush Tradition, were still at war, the Patriot Act is still in effect, the CIA, NSA, DHS and so on are still hard at work trying to locate and kill the enemy, or Air Force boys are doing a great job with those drones in Afghanistan, mercilessly killing unsuspecting Taliban and Al-Quida members from thousands of feet in the air. Our Army and Marie Corps Snipers in the Mountains of Afghanistan are hitting their targets with impunity every day. The Army is out on partol every day over their with the air cover from out Air Force.

McChrystal is in need of more troops, Obama put him in charge remember? And quick thinking Obama says.... ahhhhhh give me a few weeks or a month to think about it. Mean while without the additional troops our current troops take more causalities daily. Someone should type into the tel-prompter..... SEND MORE TROOPS the next time Obama makes a statement.

Leslye, You’re going to just have to eat it. It’s called free speech. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Canyon Rant, "He wasn't wearing fatigues. Old jacket over jeans. The entire thing was a set up by a Republican PR firm"

Why did Charlie allow the Republicans to dress him in a "old" military jacket? He made a bad choice trying to placate the left wing of his party by showing up at a very controversial display. This was not a setup by anyone, it was a choice that backfired. Charlie's inability to entice more votes for himself, was self induced. We all make choices, his judgement in cases like this killed his chances of being elected.

No, the Republican Party made a bad choice deciding to swiftboat and smear military veterans. And their continued obsession with a phony, set up PR stunt by that dip whip, San Francisco Orrick lawyer at his rental house, and then watching Deborah Johns, the vicious Fox News harpy, and the rest of Russo Marsh still doing this crap over and over again- over the course of 2 elections, hey, some people are incorrigible.

But the rest of us have caught on to your phony More Patriotic Than Thou number.

Tom Hudson and the local CA Republican party are jokes, nationally. Everybody knows their entire gimmick consists of calling for tax cuts for the rich, protecting DOD contractors from accountability, and running up more war debt because the people who want this war to continue the most, are tax deadbeats who are determined to destroy the middle class.

Well said fourgen. I think you know what you’re dealing with, however. She makes her own reality.

CR: " most, are tax deadbeats who are determined to destroy the middle class' Are you talking about Repubs or the majority of Obama's appointed cabinet members? AHH, Oh correction here Czars, kinda hard to tell the difference if you are not putting forth particular names.

CanyonRat: You are driving Patrick50 and Chase2U to apoplexy. And you are absolutely correct.

The ignoramuses unite. LOL
