Smooth blacktop awaits drivers Downtown
Streetscape
Motorists will be cruising on fresh, smooth road this morning after a paving project shut down the Lincoln Way/High Street intersection Thursday. Cook Engineering crews spread 350 tons, or around 19 truckloads, of asphalt on the intersection as part of the city’s Streetscape renovation project. “They minimized the striping, they did a good job,” said Bernie Schroeder, engineering division manager with the city. “It isn’t obvious where the paving machine went through.” The work required a detour. Traffic in both directions on High Street and Lincoln Way was rerouted onto Pine, East Placer and Finley streets. “It was a smooth day. I’m really pleased,” Schroeder said. Sidewalks remained open to pedestrians, but there wasn’t much foot traffic just after noon. Geri Godsey and a friend said they didn’t have any problems walking from her Geri’s Reflections Salon on Lewis Street to Hanami Sushi for lunch. “I just hope they get this thing done,” Godsey said. Anna Carter, an employee Downtown, said driving into work was a bit tricky. “It was a little inconvenient,” she said. “That part of the street was blocked off, so I started crawling through and a guy yelled, ‘Stop, Stop!’” Once the crewman knew she just needed to get past the detour to get to work, he let her go through. “I feel sorry for all the businesses here,” she said.

Nice job, well done. Now its time for PCWA to come in and dig-up some of their leaky waterlines.
oh snap, rabid. that is exactly what happened in our neighborhood after the county repaved our roads.
and when PCWA gets done, the re-paving won't be as nice at all.
repaving is a good idea for sure. i still say the rest is a waste. no matter where the money came from, it was spent frivolously. if a person went through the trouble to obtain the funds they could of done the same to have all the streets in that area paved. lets hope the throngs of tourists dont travel beyond streetscape or it will look like we simply polished a turd. i await the outcome assessment in one year on how business booned as a result of the streetscape and the people that travel the globe to come see the endurance capital.
It looked good, but like everyone said soon they will come in and dig it all up and then when they repave the holes they dig it'll be just as crappy as it was before.
well said wildfire13
I don't have to worry. The city street I live on barely exists and I wish PCWA would dig it up; it would get some badly needed attention.
Question: Does a citizen have to take out a city building permit to repair the city road in front of their house? Certainly the city isn't going to do it, I gave up talking to the tree stumps at city hall.
BTW, anyone notice the cute "BUMP" sign placed by the city on Lincoln Way in front of city hall? Wonder if it is permanent and will be placed on a pole.
wow, you all like to complain a lot don't you?
You all want a little cheese with that WHINE???
Rabidog, that's where drivers are now supposed to pause in front of City Hall, and do the Terrorist Fist Bump, signifying their allegiance to the New World Order.
