The funeral for Cheri Chiaratti will take place:

Nov. 20, 1 p.m. at New Song Church on D Street

Reception will take place after funeral at Kim’s Country Kitchen

Longtime Lincoln resident Cheri Chiaratti , 55, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning.

Funeral services for Chiaratti will at 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at New Song Church on D Street. There will be a reception after the funeral at Kim’s Country Kitchen. Everyone is welcome to attend the funeral and reception.

“She’s truly going to be missed by customers and co-workers,” said Kim Strong, Kim’s Country Kitchen owner.

Strong said Chiaratti and her husband, Ken, were a big part of Kim’s Country Kitchen, where Chiaratti was a cook at the restaurant and “made all of our specials.”

Chiaratti was an active Lincoln community member, especially with the Police Activities League program.

“Cheri started the PAL program with me in 1997 and has been full-go involved with it until Monday afternoon,” said Lincoln Police Department Lt. Paul Shelgren. “Monday afternoon, we were talking about plans with the Christmas party.”

Shelgren said Chiaratti would often call him on his way home from work and they would talk about “what we were going to do next, our next plan.”

“She is just a fantastic lady, and put her heart and soul into everything she did,” Shelgren added. “We go on now and everything we do we’ll be thinking about her.”

Diana Burke from Simple Pleasures said Chiaratti has left a definite impression on the community and that she will leave a legacy.

“I really loved her,” Burke said. “I know something that has touched me over time is that you could always count on her saying exactly what was on her mind and being honest with you.”

Burke also said Chiaratti was “willing to jump in and help with causes and events that she cared about” and was known as Mama Cheri to Lincoln youth who “did not have parental role models.”

“Cheri devoted her life to volunteer activities that supported the youth in our community,” Mayor Spencer Short said. “It’s a terrible loss, she really had a heart for service and she will be missed.”

Im very sorry to hear about this news! I have known Cheri since I moved here to Lincoln in 2002, and she made me feel very welcomed into the community. Since I was involved in the PAL basketball league I made memories of her through the camp that they held every year during the summer, and since Kim's Country Kitchen has opened up my family has become regulars and she was always there to greet us and talked with us all the time. She will be forever missed and loved by my family and as well Im sure by everyone in Lincoln that had got to know her over the years. My love and prays are with her and her family.

Our heart goes out the the Chiaratti family. Cheri will be sadly missed. It was our pleasure seeing Cheri at Lincoln's Haunted House and spoke with Cheri about what she's been up to lately. The community of Lincoln will have a huge void to fill with all that Cheri did for our community and children. May GOD Bless Cheri's family.

I am also very sorry to hear the news of Cheri's passing. I know how involved she was in our community and all the things she did for the youth in Lincoln. I met Cheri through my grandson Trevor Henderson. I also always enjoyed seeing her at Kim's Country Kitchen. She was always smiling and took very good care of the customers. She would stop and chat awhile and was so pleasant. I know she she was involved with our youth in many areas, including the Teen Center and the Pals organization. I last saw Cheri at the haunted house in Lincoln at the park. She was busy serving Hot Chocolate and Ken was there behind the snack bar as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. With her death, The Lincoln Community will forever be changed. God Bless your family!

What sad news! She was a wonderful presence in Lincoln and at Kim's. She will be missed by many in our community! My heart goes out to her family.

Not surprised by the many heart felt comments, about Cheri. Let me add a grieving Iowa families perspective. The sister I never had, the sister my wife never had, and the niece my deceased Mother Inlaw cherrished. Supporter of us, even when the sons and daughters of beloved Mother Inlaw were not. Our son was killed suddelnly years ago and who shows up on our door step in Iowa? Mother, Mother Inlaw, beloved Aunti Darlene becomes deathly ill, here in Iowa, who flies in immediately? Special person who will not be fogotten but forever revered as the sister and niece a true family can never replace. Cheri and her immediate family can be assured the Farrell's of Iowa were there for them yesterday, today and the years to come. Love you Cheri.......
