Pomeroy powers Forest Lake volleyball past Wilton

The Forest Lake Christian volleyball team cruised into the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs Tuesday with a 25-9, 25-12, 23-25, 25-19 victoy over Wilton Christian.

The sixth-seeded Falcons will face No. 3 Stone Ridge Christian on Thursday in Merced.

Morghan Pomeroy paced Forest Lake (13-6) in the win over Wilton. The senior had 16 kills, seven blocks and 10 digs. Caitlin Hanson tossed in 13 kills while Molly Huusfeldt had five kills, eight digs and three aces.

Jen Menary dished out 26 assists for the Falcons along with six kills. Christy Johnston served up eight aces and hustled for seven digs.

Orestimba 3, Colfax 2 at Newman — The Falcons lost a heartbreaker in their Division IV playoff opener, 25-22, 18-25, 12-25, 26-24, 15-13.

Colfax was the No. 11 seed after finishing second in the Pioneer Valley League. Orestimba was the Western League champion, earning t he sixth seed.

The Falcons end the season with a 12-8 overall record.

Golden Sierra 3, Calaveras 0 at Garden Valley — The Grizzlies swept into the second round, living up to their No. 5 seed.

Golden Sierra topped Calaveras 25-20, 25-23, 25-20.
