John Nightingale (Nov. 2) certainly had it right with his letter on Obama, a mere wannabe. However, we do have a serious problem with such a person as president of our country. He has used the recession as a crisis to project his views of Marxism on America. In a very short period of time, Obama with his cooperative Congress, have created a stimulus plan that has increased the deficit triplefold without achieving anything of significance; taken over the automobile industry and given part of it to the unions; taken over the banking system and is now trying to take over healthcare and pass a cap and trade bill that will take over energy. All of his plans are very expensive without accomplishing anything. Big companies should have been allowed to fail just as small companies do; the health care plan will not improve health care but will give the government control and the populace higher taxes; the cap and trade will devastate industry and cause a loss of jobs and more taxes. It is time for Americans to wake up and take their country back. Neither party has served us well with their spending. Ann Laman, Auburn

We did wake up and take our country back. Almost exactly one year ago. Get used to it Ann. But sorry to disappoint you on the Marxism comment. Calling Obama a Marxist is like calling Reagan a Fascist. Neither is true; it's just irresponsible political rhetoric from the extremes of the right and left wings.
I don't know if anyone took back the country but we were due for a shift for sure. The pendulum swings back and forth every so often. Now it's the Dems turn, next will be the Repubs and hopefully some day some truly independent party will be in power doing what is right for the people. Just look at this past election, people let them know their displeasure with the economy and who knows what else. That is the best check and balance in the world, they either listen or they are out.
Gulliver, it's too bad that we can't do with politics what they do in diving competition which is to throw out the high and low scores, that keeps the judges honest in their Judging. It's time for this country to boot both extremes, they are totally counterproductive.
Just remember... Without Jimmy Carter we would not have had Ronald Reagan.
