Supes can’t mind business
Reader Input
Your article, “Generics combat costs,” (Journal, Nov. 4): why does Placer County need a “cost saving task force”? It is simple, the Placer County supervisors are not capable of running a business. If they were business people, you would not have written this article. Case in point: “Supervisors also accepted a recommendation by a committee to require employees to buy recycled printer ink cartridges instead of new ones.” Please tell me why a committee needs to tell the supervisors what to do. These supervisors are not business personnel. We need business people to run this county. Paul Campbell, Auburn

The county supervisors think that their role is to micromanage the entire county budget and involve themselves in day to day minutia. As a result they cannot see the forest because of the trees. Kirk Uhler cannot manage his way out of a paper bag much less lead anything. Weygandt had some flunky job in his dad's company. Rockholm is completely clueless about virtually everything he supposed to evaluate. $30,000 a year does not buy much anymore.
The supervisor role is supposed to be a policy setting body, not a managerial group. We have a county manager and pay him and his staff a lot of money to develop policy and manage the employee base. He should be sending policy recommendations up to the BOS and they should approve, modify, or deny them.
They should be part time and hold meetings in the evening when regular working people can attend.
YS, Why don't you run for supervisor? I'm sure you would get the endorsement of the Decline to State party.
bubbagrump, I agree that $30K doesn't buy much any more but in the case of the three you mentioned we're over paying by at least $25K each.
YS, you are correct, the problem is that they can't hire either, after all they are the ones that pick the CEO and support his recommendations. Without their tacit approval there wouldn't be an army of assistant CEOs that are costing the taxpayer's mega bucks. Yes, they don't run the County per se but their decisions can deeply affect it.
But wait folks, Uhler and “Sir Plutocrat” Bobby Weygandt are clever at lining their own pockets by steering non-compete bids for county projects to their own company, and appointing their own county Assessor to make certain their company does not get taxed.
Rocky, well let’s just let Rocky be Rocky. Hopefully he does not have a brother; this world can only handle one at a time
Jim is feckless and is led around by Tom Miller: Jim is one heck of a nice guy, but hasn’t proven capable of thinking on his own.
Jennifer, well she is new, give her time she will probably soon realize that she is being used an errand worker for CEO Tom Miller.
So don’t look at the Current Board of Supervisor’s as being ineffectual, two of the five are quite adept at distorting state law to their own favor. One knows how latch together an airplane seat belt. One knows………….well, they jury is out on this one. And finally, a nice lady from the mountains who has yet to realize she is a puppet.
So, let’s vote them all back into their position the next time we have a chance, after-all Placer County has a reputation to live down to and we don’t want to swamp our own Titanic.
Rabidog,
Ouch... you are hardcore on the supes arent you. I do so love your post's they stir up a lot of thought. I had to go look up the word "Feckless" which you used to describe Jim. I agree that he is a very nice guy, but I wouldn't call him "Feckless".
Paul, The article was written because the BOS and Miller brought it to the journal's attention in an attempt at deflection. They are taking heat for their elitist attitude and actions. Miller and Colwell are robbing the coffers and the BOS are idle. This is smoke and mirrors.
