Shockley would be shocked
Reader Input

The Auburn Recreation District Board accepted 26 acres and $50,000 from the Shockley Trust but is not putting any effort into maintaining or upgrading the park.

I have walked the park and am horrified to see that someone is camping in a tent on the property. Also, junk is accumulating which includes a sofa, mattress, bottles and other trash.

Bikers are digging in the dirt to create their bumpy trails. The fire marshal declared the area a “tinder box” and that condition remains.

I would think that the neighbors would be alarmed about what is happening in this new park.

In some cities, neighbors have formed an association to fund the upkeep of their park.

No one likes an additional fee but the choice was to have a park or to see the property developed.

ARD needs to take responsibility for remediating the park or disposing of it if the expense is too great.

Maybe naming the park after William Shockley would be sweet revenge. ARD decided to “kick the can down the road” and not put up a sign in the “near future” honoring this racist man.

I’m sure that Shockley would be outraged at the thought of homeless people hanging out in his park.

Gee Karen, you don't like racists but you seem to like people down and out on their luck even less. Are you just a Shockley hater, an elitist, or a hypocrite, which one? Inquiring minds want to know, after all, you are the one that started all the commotion about the park to begin with.

Karen, time to move on, ARD, neighbors & other agencies are working to clean up the area, you really need to move on, both the community and you need a break on this one. There are lots of other worthy causes that could use your energy and passion in a more positive & would be much more constructive and beneficial to all.

Karen, this property has been in this shape for years. My In-laws live in the area and I drive by is many times a week. Nothing new here. MFG, glad to hear that someone is doing something about the mess.

Karen does highlight an issue that was a primary reason that some on the ARD board did not want to accept the "responsibility" of this property, while as chase2you points out the property is exactly as it has been for decades, now ARD is being "attacked" and held responsible for all problems and concerns on this property, yet has no additional staff or real funding to take care of it in the long haul. This property is NOT a park, nor is there any chance of that happening as far in the future as I can see. Did Ms. Tjabal call the police or ARD with her concerns? I think not, I think readers are smart enough to read between the lines on this one!

One more thing & mark your calendars Karen, and all others concerned about this chunk of "urban wilderness" , there is a "community" clean-up day tentatively scheduled for December 5th - This will be facilitated by ARD, and I suggest contacting them for more info as we get closer to the date. This will be the start of what hopefully will be a long partnership between the ARD & Community to maintain this land, so when neighbors and others choose to walk through it they will not be "horrified"! ask not what your community can do for you, but..... Keep Smilin'!

mfgcontroversy, sorry but Karen Tajbi is booked on that date. She will be attending a wine and cheese tasting affair with her friends in the ACLU.

You lower class folks can go ahead and clean the urban wilderness, she needs to network with her high falutin friends.

She will probably attended her church that has a sordid past history with eugenics. The Tajbl's seem intent on keeping Shockley in the minds of all those that have no prejudices or hatred in their soles, those of "pure heart" that have no tolerence for other opinions.
