Six Loomis residents were arrested in the second Placer counterfeit-money-ring bust in a week.

Tuesday night Placer County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Benjamin Martin Nunez, 37, Etta Sanders, 36, Jorge Luis Pena, 53, Mark Randall Cosme, 23, Michael Patrick Casey, 37, and Tracy Irene McCormick, 33, at a 5-bedroom home all six were living in on the 3300 block of Auburn Folsom Road.

The six were arrested at 5:30 p.m. on allegations that they’ve been operating a counterfeit currency printing scam out of the home since March 2009, according to Detective Jim Hudson.

Detectives and deputies were led to the house after investigating a series of times when counterfeit $100 bills were passed at Placer County Target stores.

Using surveillance videos, Hudson said deputies were able to capture one of the suspect’s license plate numbers and then found the car’s registration information. From there, they compared driver’s license photos with pictures from store video cameras to positively identify the suspects involved.

When deputies arrived at the home Tuesday night, four of the six counterfeit suspects were home and two others arrived at the residence later.

Deputies found two rooms inside the house that were set up to make the counterfeit bills. Inside those rooms were printers, scanners, counterfeit $100, $50 and $20 bills, and notes.

“They kept detailed notes of where they were able to pass currency and where they were not able to pass currency,” Hudson said.

Detectives also recovered “numerous” receipts of items purchased with counterfeit bills and then returned in exchange for legitimate bills.

This is the second counterfeit scam that Placer Sheriff’s have uncovered in the last week.

On Oct. 30, two Sacramento residents were arrested on suspicion of burglary, passing counterfeit currency and conspiracy.

Officials say the two rings are unrelated.

“The fact that we found two counterfeit locations in a matter of a week is unheard of,” Hudson said.

Hudson credited Target officials with helping the investigation.

In addition to arresting the six suspects in connection with the counterfeit ring, two additional residents at the home, Daniel Kral, 36, of Loomis, and Stacy Lee Brady, 33, of Sacramento, were also arrested when deputies discovered they were wanted on two unrelated warrants.

Hudson warned residents to be cautious of counterfeit money schemes as the holiday season approaches.

“We want to stress upon the public to please be careful when accepting currency and check to make sure it’s legitimate,” Hudson said. “As we approach our holiday season, more counterfeit currency is being made.”

They should go after the crooks at the Fed Reserve

Who writes these headlines? Not blaming Jennifer, I'm sure the reporter doesn't write the headline: note to the editor - there is ONE sheriff and the rest are deputies, thus making the headline incorrect; it should say "Deputies make second counterfeit money bust in a week," or "Sheriff makes second counterfeit money bust in a week."

I say "Good Job" for tracking them down and arresting the alledged counterfiters. Lets hope they also do a good job of collecting allowable evidence for the cours to use for convictions!

Good work.

Auburn Lady must be an English teacher, but if she's not...she's still correct! The headline is grammatcally incorrect! Beyond that, GREAT JOB PCSO!!! Funny money's been shoiwing up at other venues as well--even at youth football games. At keast these creeps won't be able to cheat all the non-profits out of revenues during the upcoming Thansgiving and Christmas season events.

Get scum like these off the streets.

Great job Deputies, did you all notice that this whole arrest was linked to surveillance cameras? I do not mind them ( Cameras) being out there, but the ACLU has a real problem with them. Will be interesting to see if the ACLU gets involved in this one.

Anybody given thought to the possibility that the “money” they were printing may have a higher value than that of the Fed? Heck, they were running the own in-house TARP program.

Rabidog: Your above comment just made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You for the good laugh....:)

No doubt this group was making money to support their meth addictions. I'll bet the crime stats go down in their neighborhood. Good job PCSO.

AuburnLady: "Sheriff’s department" is the correct term...the department belongs to one sheriff.

AuburnLady: If it had read "Sheriffs' department...that would be incorrect.

how do you ck if they are good?

Is this really a crime or just a stimulus package?

Dorks. Sheriff's dept. is correct. Isn't the real issue about getting scum off the streets? Focus people!

Is there anything Obama can do to prevent this? Maybe a federal counterfeit currency czar?

essayons, where did this comment come from? Why would you even say that?

Great job PCSO!

Since counterfeiting money is a Federal crime, why is there no mention of the Federal agents/agencies involved? hmmm..

STONEHOUSE, goto http://www.wikihow.com/Detect-Counterfeit-US-Money

The site contains much information on how to tell the real from the fake.

I hate counterfeiters.

Hey I found the solution for dealing with the four Pit Bulls in Auburn. Since Loomis seems to be going to the dogs, just send the pits here. I'm sure some of the people running meth labs or cultivating pot will welcome them, if these people had qualified, well trained dogs they could have held the Deputies at bay until they could have destroyed the evidence. I was under the impression that The Secret Service became involved with counterfeiting rings, besides being the bodyguards for the President and others counterfeiting is their main occupation, or at least I thought so.

This happened just a short distance from where my daughter lives.

Parks and Recs is a Department, Public Works is a Dept, Road Department is a department...all staffed and run by entities appointed by the Board of Supes.

The Sheriff is an elected position and as such...the person elected occupies the Office of the Sheriff...hence, Sheriff's Office.

....nice pinch guys....

Good job on the bust. Also - online reporting is not the same as reporting in print. Many more mistakes because they get the stories out so fast. However, the title should said makes instead of make. "The department "makes" or Deputies "make". So - I do believe there is a typo here........

Hey Cali09 that was a good call. I hadn't even noticed that about the "make"-"makes" until you mentioned it. But you were right, and I'm surprised no one else noticed that, especially since everyone was so busy criticizing everything else that was written...
