Zebras topple Placer, remain perfect
Lincoln defense holds Hillmen to one score after giving up 55 points last season
The Placer High football team and an overflow crowd at LeFebvre Stadium found out firsthand just how far Lincoln has come in the past year. The Zebras corralled Placer’s high-powered offense on their way to a 13-6 win Friday night. Senior fullback Tim Bevins scored two touchdowns as Lincoln improved to 8-0 on the year while handing the Hillmen (7-1) their first loss. Senior Todd Hinnebusch had two interceptions for the Zebras. His second set up Lincoln’s game-winning drive — an 84-yard march capped by Bevins’ 1-yard run with 4 minutes 43 seconds left in the game. Placer answered with an impressive drive of its own. But Asher Gotzmer, who rushed for 109 yards on 21 carries, was stripped of the ball inside the Lincoln 5-yard line and J.J. Castillo pounced on it to all but seal the Zebras’ victory. “I saw it come out and my natural instinct was to just fall on it, cover it up,” the 6-5, 250-pound Castillo said. “Placer’s a great team. This was a really fun game, my kind of game.” The defensive struggle was a stark contrast to last season’s meeting in Lincoln, in which Placer won 55-30. “It just goes to show you what one year can do for a program,” Placer coach Joey Montoya said. “They really didn’t do anything that we didn’t expect. We just didn’t didn’t execute at the right times.” Placer broke through on its first drive of the second quarter as junior Josh Turney dashed into the end zone from eight yards out to cap a 64-yard drive. Cameron Southward’s extra-point attempt missed. Lincoln answered with a workmanlike 80-yard TD march. Bevins, who finished with a game-high 111 rushing yards, scored from two yards out. Southward atoned for his missed kick by making the tackle on a botched snap on Lincoln’s extra-point attempt to keep the game tied at 6-6. Placer had a 20-yard field goal attempt blocked following its first drive of the second half. “That was a bad call on my part,” Placer coach Joey Montoya said. “I take full responsibility for the offensive coordinating and the offensive line play tonight. Give Lincoln a lot of credit. They made some great plays at the right times. Their defensive line created a lot of conflicts with our passing game.” Placer junior Collin Burnett completed 4 of 7 passes for 66 yards, but he was pressured all night by Castillo and company. The Zebras got sacks from Steven Gunter, Alex Cowden, Anthony Moreno (2), Jacob Tryon, Zak Gianola, Dustin Knuuttila and Castillo. “We’re big,” Castillo said. “Me and my friend over there (Tryon), we’re both 6-5, I’m 250 and he’s 300 pounds. But all of us work really hard on defense.” Offensively, Lincoln got very little from leading rusher Moses Stanley (10 yards on seven carries). But Bevins found running room up the middle to make up for it. “At first we were surprised at their defense because we usually move the ball,” Bevins said. “They’re a tough team, so we just had to let go of the big plays and take what they gave us.” Dalton Dyer rushed for 75 yards on 10 carries for Placer and Southward caught two passes for 39 yards. The Hillmen fans were joined by more than a dozen Grant High players and fans in the stands Friday night. The Pacers, who won the open division California football championship last season and are undefeated again this year, had a bye Friday night. Lincoln (4-0 Pioneer Valley League) is on the road again next Friday, facing Bear River. Placer (3-1 PVL) is back at home to face Colfax.

sounded like a heckuva game...even stranger eldo whacked whitney...go figure and then d.o. loses to woodcreek, wow!
fromdownthehill, I agree, some surprises here.
Placer was sacked so many times I thought I was at Raleys, but they all fough t hard
Wow boys! What a nail-biter while listening on the radio! The gremlins were out early (looking at some of the other scores too)...bounce back- we are with you next week! Thanks for an exciting season--
what happened to the high octane offense???
was placer outcoached???
Whoops! Great job JV's - will be back supporting you next week too! Go Hillmen!
@calitex--not out coached at all...lincoln brought the d in a big way (6'5" 300 & 6"3" 250) their two kids played stud on the line--well that and 3 red zone miscues...should be interesting next week vs. colfax...still stunned at the d.o. loss...d.o. finishes on the road starting at 8-0 rocklin next week
you have to do something to take the big fellas out of the game.....so maybe he was outcoached
good one.
Placer played a great game and our defense did very well against a Lincoln offense that also scores much more. Placer's offense had a tough time with a very big and physical Lincoln defensive line. Turnovers hurt but they are part of the game and the Lincoln defense deserves some of the credit. But Placer made some nice adjustments and was on the way to score before a rare fumble by Asher. I am sure Coach Montoya and Placer will prevail in the next match with Lincoln. We have a lot to be proud of with this team that works so hard and does not give up and a dedicated hard working coaching staff.
GO HILLMAN!!!!
Dr Bill Kirby
You Lincoln people have a lot of class, when you guys won last night it seemed like you have never been in that position before......o wait, you havent.
Down the hill ...... You heard wrong Whit won big over El Dorado.......35 to 13
Lincoln is for real !!!!!
Outstanding game guys, way to play some hard nose defense, along with a super running game. keep it up only 2 more to go for a clean sweep, not sure if lincoln has ever done that before. GOOD LUCK!!!
Also what a great turnout of the Zebra fans in Auburn last night lets keep the streak alive.
According to MaxPreps Whitney lost to El Dorado last night, 35-13. Whitney is now 3-2 in league
Colfax prevailed in a non-league game yesterday versus hapless Highlands. Colfax's one league loss came at the hands of Whitney after a short rest following the nail-biter game at Bear River on the previous Monday.
Surprisingly, Colfax has a shot at an outright league title. With Lincoln and Placer left to play it will be very tough. However, if Colfax beats both of them then both Colfax and Lincoln would have one loss and Lincoln's would have been to Colfax.
I figured this would be an interesting season.
Colfax vs. Placer @ Placer next week; Lincoln vs. Colfax @ Colfax to finish the season.
Asher: I'm proud of you. You played a great game.
All of you played a great game against a good team.
Lincoln play us well and with the exception of a couple of plays, came out on top. That's the way close games are - one or two plays make the difference.
It's sad that Lincoln was not well coached in the class department. The way their players acted after the game and before was sad at best. I hope they learn to be better than that.
calitex: A 13-6 game is not out coached. It's a battle. Lincoln has a great defense and so does Placer. The defense made the difference in this game as Lincoln and Placer's offense were shut down.
MaxPreps just changed it, Whitney won. Same guy must have reported the wrong score to Chn. 3, 10 and MaxPreps.
nice fact checking by all the folks who post scores...so it's lincoln, placer (if they win out) and whitney for the first 3 playoff spots...sure would have liked to see a few screens and maybe a draw or two last nite, but overall both teams played good ball...as for the lincoln fans, it is great to see enthusiasm like that at any level.
Lincoln has beat 8 teams this year, but only two of those wins have drawn complaints that our kids have "no class" or our coaches don't know how to teach "class." Those two teams were Whitney and Placer, the two teams that were supposed to smash us. Guess they have to have something to complain about since they were both shut down. No one outside of Lincoln wants to see us succeed, thats ok, it fuels our boys and coaches!
Good Job by the Runnin Zebs. They were asked to play perfect, they darn near did. It took a few series and the offense dialed in an took away the Hillmens advantage. The defense was lock down all night with the PVL's best DB's and a ferocious D-line that penetrated a well coached Hill-line. are far as out-coaching is concerned that is what the Zebs did. thats how you win a close one, you out coach your opponent. We had an answer for everything, even the strip from Asher which was well timed and played. They coach that on D-days at most high schools if not all of them. When you take a team that scores 41+ a game and reduce them to 6...Thats out coaching
Congrats again to the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, well done...Well done
Mojo Fo Lyfe
When you play another good team in a close game it often comes down to mistakes deciding the outcome. Placer made more mistakes than Lincoln did, and thus lost the game. Turnovers and blocked FG attempt were the difference.
Placer fans that were upset with Lincoln players celebrating after the game are sore losers. This was a huge game that will decide the league champ most likely, they had every right to be excited with the big road win. I saw nothing during the game that could classified as lack of class from either side.
Neither Placer nor Lincoln has what anyone would call a good program in recent history. Sure Placer made a great and surprising playoff run last year, but prior to that these, were teams opponents scheduled for their homecoming. Both the Hillmen and Zebras have been bottom dwellers for so long, it's nice to see them having success this year. Good luck to both as the playoffs near.
Great HS football game last night.
well said, fredthehillman!
Shadowman,
Lincoln did play an excellent football game. Placer continues to catch yellow hankys, and that makes me wonder when the coaches will point out what a block in the back is, and how it effects the outcome of a game. One happened twenty yards from a play that had gone thirty. That player should not have even been touching the Lincoln man let alone blocking him from behind. How many yards did Placer get in penaties? That right there couild have made the difference.
As for the class, or lack of it, shown by Linclon...well, it certainly chips off some of the great points they made during the game. I really liked the line of Lincoln players who, during warm ups, ran along the Placer sideline and gave the middle finger to the fans. There was also evident a certain hand motion that I won't explain. Now that was some real class. I also liked their player...and a very good player at that, who waved the Linclon flag on our sideline after the game. That shows me that these boys may play a great game, but have a distance to go to be good sportmen. . This same player is the one who after the game stood on our sideline (just prior to the flag waving) and motioned for the crowd to cheer...placing a hand near an earhole to hear the applause. There wasn't any. You won, great game and effort, now go celebrate with your team...fool.
I understand that he later appalogized to coach Montoya, I hope he did that on his own though I doubt it.
when you put up as many point as placer has and then get damn near shut out, i would say you were out coached. i would say that is the definition of being out coached. you need to make an adjustment and it appears none were made.
fredthehillman,
Lord knows that Placer has celebrated plenty after a win on an opponents field...just not in front of their bench. After a game like the one last night I certainly do not see anything wrong with the fans getting on the field with their team. It was a big, big win. But the observed behavior that I wrote of above does bother me, and shows a lesson in sportmanship needs to be learned at Lincoln. For the first time since the season began, I left my camera at home. I sure wish I had it with me last night. I'd love to mail Lincolns coach a photo of the bird boys as they ran our sideline.
Listen, for once. Like I have been saying all along....you have to, have to get rid of that offense first and foremost. The honeymoon period has been over for some time now...ask Nevada Union, Poly of Long Beach. It is easy to defend now if the opponent is half way decent. That's another thing..they are playing a bunch of rummies..JV caliber teams, with the exception of an avg. team like Casa. Of course Placer is gonna score a bunch and give up little against most of these teams. But, as soon as you play someone who actually is decent, boom..true colors come out. Yes..out coached, out physicaled (strength/fitness/wind) Placer guys had hands on knees half way through the 1st! I read yesterday someone said they have a great weightlifting program. Not! It's obvious. The kids know it too and they all go to the local gyms and workout in an effort to get strong..too bad they don't have any guidance. But they realize what they are doing is not up to snuff. Bench., cleans, and squats. Hmm..what about back, shoulders, Bi/tri, groin, neck, forearms, calfs..coaches typically call these "supplemental" lifts and really do not encourage them. (just what I hear from the kids, thats all, I could be mistaken) That's kinda puttin the boys at risk I think. Are they really being given the best opportunity to succeed? I guess coach better start pulling the kids outta class some more to talk FB. In the end it will be same ol same ol. Combined record of teams they play: well under .500
Placer's non-PVL games are against good teams. They whipped a Rosemont team that is currently 5-3 and made the playoffs last season. They also beat Woodcreek (who just beat Del Oro) pretty badly, then went on to beat Casa Roble who was then ranked in the top ten in the Sacramento Bee and broke their 18 game winning streak. Our homecoming game was even against a good team, Capital Christian, who is 5-3. So if I were you, I wouldn't be talking about how tough a teams schedule is, Lincoln beat up on WOODLAND (1-7), WHEATLAND (population 300), BROOKSIDE CHRISTIAN (Division 6), and MARYSVILLE (3-5 in Division 6). Your last game before Placer was against that tough Marysville team, giving you guys basically 2 weeks to prepare for Placer.
Combined record of teams they play: well under .500
Lincoln is a very good team and deserves the credit! After reading about the DO game, it is amazing that we have not "tip our hats" to the other zebras, the officials. They let both teams play and play hard! It is difficult to have a team loose, in a battle of that magnitude. I don't think pointing fingers (coaching, miscues, etc.) is really appropriate! Finger point ing just belittles the great play of the YOUNG players that participate.
ok ok check this out jake tryon is the one who made asher fumble well jake made kids fumble all the time so it was not a rare fumble he cant be stop this team cant be stop lincoln is going all the way to all the haters that said we cant do it well look at us now cus we cant be stop
Give Lincoln respect! They dominated all of those teams that you mentioned weren't that good.(ChazzMichaelMichaels) Our starter were out at the end of 2nd Qtr.. That's what GOOD teams do...like they way you didn't mention Wheatland's record, they have only lost to Lincoln! That game last night was amazing on BOTH sides..ALL those boys played thier butts off! And for the record, getting sick of everyone talking about Lincoln being unlcassey...the giving finger thing was unneseccasry (if it happened) but let's not forget ablout all the unclassey Hillmen fans all week EVEN THE MAYOR! Bottom line is both teams were great! And the better team won..quit making excuses. Great game Hillmen. Amaxing game Zebras! YOU ROCK 8-0! Now don't let down...D.O. just lost to Woodcreek probably becasue the got too relaxed! Next week Bear River!
I watched a great game last night too, Lincolns D is huge, Placers D played huge too, keeping the Zebras out of the endzone allot, Hillmen missed at least 3 scoring opps. I havent seen them miss much this year, that would have been BIG.Could have been a different game. No doubt Lincoln is for real, I my self questioned that for a few weeks, looking at Max preps and who they had played etc. But they sure brought it last night. I agree about the "Class" issue they could have been better sportsman, something your Coach might want to consider. This was a big game, but you have a way to go for the Prize, might want to consider that before some of your antics. Hillmen you played your hearts out against a formidable foe. Keep your focus and move on. 6 more games!!. PHSJAZZ1978
whoever blasted joey and the hillmen about lifting and the schedule and whatever else you were yapping about should be ashamed of themselves. The coaching staff and the boys have been such a joy to watch prepare and play! anything other than praise for these guys who have followed up a rollercoaster season like last year should be kept to themselves not to mention that other than the fans and parents they dont get much help from the journal. No offense to the a.j but support the boys with a little more ink. I understand covering the whole area but they have a paper in loomis. And collin Burnett could just about hit the journal office from the campus! asher your the man and its good to see Caleb Mitchells allright. It matters how you deal with the loss more than the loss itself.
Okay, for those that demand respect..well listen up...you have to earn it. For those that say the only teams that have issues with Linc-L are Placer and Whit because they lost...get a clue...ED and Mesa, their fans never get on the blogs and post. I have no idea what kind of behavior your players or fans did at their games. But I will tell you this. You can have your wins, you can have your excitement, but to disrespect another team's COACH is not acceptable. Go ahead and yell all you want, but if you want respect, then I suggest you behave a little bit more respectful. Cut throat gesture from your coach's side to Coach G is inexusable. You will NOT have my respect. You will get my congrats on your wins. That is it. You won the game on Friday. That is it. You lost my respect with your finger waving and your flag waving to the Hillmen Coach/fans. And I was there as a guest to watch a great game. And it was a great game. Thank you Placer Hillmen for the welcome and the class act you and your fans showed.
To #22 Gotzmer- This was only 1 game..You played your heart out as well as all your team mates. Your Hillmen community rallied around Dalton last year. They rally around you now. Do not think for one moment you let your team down. The score only reflects the game's outcome, not who the real winners are..what I saw on that field in Green/Gold were winners. What is it your announcer says...through good times and bad...its great to be a Hillmen..Don't ever forget it. -Whit fan
That was a great game played by both teams. I'm a Lincolnite and our boys have been shown no respect this season and the lack of class shown was just a case of getting caught up in the moment. I know the flag waver very well and he is a very humbled classy kid that was raised right and made a poor choice. Hats off to the Hillman hope we meet again
First of all I would like to voice my disappointment with the Lincoln High FB organization. If we (PHS) won a game then went to the losing teams home town paper to shots at them it would be cruel. I will say Placer did NOT play to the caliber and potential that we are used to experiencing. Yes - Lincoln rightfully won the game and Yes Placer lost but really I expect so much more courtesy and sportsmanship from our over the hills sister community. The Lincoln players that flipped off our crowd after winning and such should be accountable to the Lincoln coach and should anyone have pictures of this it really is a priority to let that coach know that sportsmanship is just as important as winning.
I understand from reading their comments that they felt we did not respect them and it is simply not true. Respect has to be earned and you do not demonstrate that by sending nasty posts and flipping off crowds. Calitex is an example of this ~ disgusting...
I can not imagine celebrating a win by sending the Auburn Journal comments down grading Placer. At least the gate yielded quite a haul for the school and we lost with grace.
Thank you Placer supporters for the encouragement and best wishes and let's regroup and make Colfax a priority of a game to focus on. Win or lose let's be a class act no matter what. Never act like LIncoln did like a team who does not know how to win with dignity.
Thank you Joey and team and especially Auburn fans for the positive support.

Let's just face the facts, this was a great game between two great teams that in my mind are very similar and are pretty dang equal to each other. It came down to who made the mistake. For the guy who said the Wing-T is over, boomer68, ugh, funny, where were you when the Hillmen were 7-0. And NU is still damn good, and Bellvue in WA has won 4 state championships in the past 7 years.. Placer can go back to the option and run 98% of the time and get 3 yards per carry and go 4-6 if you'd like. You have no idea what you are talking about in my opinion. The Wing-T has brought out the best in Placer. I
It's funny how many people jump off the bandwagon once they lose to a very good Lincoln team.
gorilla- you said, "Guess they have to have something to complain about since they were both shut down. No one outside of Lincoln wants to see us succeed, thats ok, it fuels our boys and coaches! "
You're kidding right? Go crawl back under your rock and think that over again. 3 yrs ago Whit was sittin' at 2-6 and so what. Whit didn't sit there and say no one wanted them to succeed. Knock the chip off your shoulder and get over it. Congrats on your wins..just do it with dignity. I'll tell you right now, that if Coach G saw or knew his players were flippin' off the opposing team's fans/players he would blow a gasket. In fact I saw him blow a gasket when a player totally did unsportsman-like behavior, the player not only got ejected, but Coach G grabbed him by the facemask and reamed him a whole nuther opening. No, the complaints are justified, your behavior is not. Nuf said.
@ mojo- you are sooo funny. The strip from Asher was 'well-timed and played'. Wow How come it took the Zebs oh, about 50+ yards before they 'stripped' it? Hmmmmm...Also, how many points were the Zebs scoring a game? Was it only 14? I would say that your definition of 'out-coaching' is quite a stretch...LOL...you are just toooo funny to take serious...You guys won, but please it was not a blowout or a 'domination' by any means. It was all about the D and all about the team with the least mistakes....IMO these were two evenly matched teams. LMAO...out-coached...you should do stand up...
Wow Key u seem tense.... Whats with all the haterade.... I have not seen any of the aforementioned classlessness. You have to remember we as parents and followers dont see that in our kids that apprent visitors or home crowds we go too do. I asked coaches and fans if they saw any kid flip off the crowd as your hill blogers claim. None noted.... My only guess is that if a player did it was probably elicited when someone in hill stands said something to provoke him. I did hear allot of booing from said hill stands. I also heard that one of the Lincoln booth coaches was harassed after the game and was booed by the hill fans. But as coaches they hear it all the time. I can asure the Sons of hillmen or even Whit Wild cats were supposed to beat the Stinkin Lincoln Zebs: The had a poor scheduling,div6 teams, etc Blah blah blah. The only way that Lincoln was to win is that Placer/Whit fumbled or penalties or acts of god. When that didnt hapen, when both teams got there hat handed to them, they blame it on the crowds or Players. Like the hill head coach who came running on the field yelling at our players and student body for rushing the field in a pivotal win that could decide the PVL..I heard from the kids he droped F-bombs and classesness, get off the field. insted of talking to his kids about what the team did good hes pointing at us stomping around like he was Napoleon recarnate. Like i said before "When you point the finger you have three pointing Back" Mojo Fo Lyfe
Placer has no right to talk about class! Anyone witness the basketball game last year when a kid on their JV team hit a buzzer beater shot and he turned to the LHS crowd and grabbed himself...over and over. Is that how Auburn "folk" teach class? :)
A few kids get caught up in the moment and need to be taught a lesson. It is as simple as that. Placer lost, Lincoln is better this year. It is as simple as that.
DEAL WITH IT...ZEBRAS ARE 8-0, it is as simple as that!
OMG - This is not basketball , DUH... Lincoln won the game period. What more do you want? What is the Lincoln paper and is any of Placer supporters on that? I bet not. This is way overboard & enough already!
Don't talk about lincolns basketball team, they might have even less class than the football team.
Ahhh, Lincoln showing class again...
Boomer68, your an idiot! Keyon well put. Lots of football left so no team can claim to be the best yet. A one possession loss between undefeated teams could go either way on any given night. Lincoln fans congrats on your success it's been a while but remember this when the playoffs role around, the hardest thing to do in sports in beat a very good team twice in one season.
mojo- I am not tense. Oh please, you never see this but only see that. I bet you're like those parents that their children are perfect and 'little johnny' would never do that. Well let me tell you, if I found out my son flipped off the opposing teams fans, he'd be held accountable. I'd have coach make him do extra sprints, crawls, weights, I have him put his @$$ through a ringer. But you justify your players flippin' off Hillmen fans? Do you think for one moment Bill Miller, a legendary coach at Placer with his wife would taunt Lincoln players? You say your people didn't see it...well why would they, were they on the Hillmen side?
Lets see, would you like the opposing team running on your home field after a win and waving a flag in their face? I don't believe that Whit did that to you last year did they? In fact has anyone done that to you in the previous years?
Its all about how you react to the situation. I'll be the first to say that the fans on all teams leave a lot to be desired. But to justify your players and coach's actions, nope you still don't have my respect. I'm done with your excuses. You won. Enjoy. But your actions after, you already won...well they are low class. Enjoy this year, because its all about re-loading and I think Lincoln is running out of ammo this year.LOL.
@mojo- OMG, I just re-read your novel...Again you should do stand-up.hahaha You said, "The only way that Lincoln was to win is that Placer/Whit fumbled or penalties or acts of god. When that didnt hapen, when both teams got there hat handed to them, they blame it on the crowds or Players."
It wasn't the penalties, but OMG it was a fumble on Placer's part and you got a Hail Mary in the last 35 secs on Whits part....Yes you handed both teams the hat, but in the last minutes of two very close games. If you want to talk about hat handing, then talk Mesa and El Dorado. Nobody is blaming the loss on the crowds or the player's behavior. Our only point on both is that they were great games, but your behavior after winning is suspect. That's all. Get over it and stop making excuses for bad behavior. And yes at the Whit game students started shouting 'Stinkin Lincoln' by which a teacher stopped them and told them to knock it off. When they complained about getting food at the snack bar and kids telling them to get the h@LL out of their and dropping the F-bomb at our cheerleaders, he told them: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THEY DO, YOU TAKE THE HIGHER ROAD. He didn't say, Oh, Okay, keep chanting. Geesh... Yep you won, but both games could have gone either way, but they went your way. Period. Lincoln won.
Just an additional note, Lincolns antics started when they entered the field, They did the tunnel, ,,cool, and they do have alot of spirit and it showed all nite,,,great, they are very proud of their team,,,better. But even in their warm up, they came down the 50, turned north and paraded up our side line, pounding their chests etc. The same act they did at the end, that wasnt made up they apparently rehearse this show, and yes I agree it doesnt lend to being a confident, classy, sportsmanship minded program. That comes from the top and their coach needs to address it. I would assume if there were fingers waved, it wont be long until the pics come out, shouldnt Touchdown Productions have some footage of that? Enough said, It was a great game, my personal opinion, Placer made the mistakes that cost them the game, I havent seen any stats, but I dont recall Lincoln pounding on the door in the red zone all night either. There is still alot of season left, all the marbles are still 6 games away, until we meet again. PHSJAZZ1978
Some one who is not used to winning sometimes has a hard time knowing how to handle it. It does come from the top down. A coach who has a history of winning, especially championships, would know that type of taunting will come come back to bite them in the rear. There is a good chance these two could meet again. Hope so! played against Lincoln back in the day and they were not that good. Played with a couple of Lincoln grads later at sierra and they were good guys. I guess times change.
ohhh and by the way we dont rehears anything like that we arent an unclassy team we get caught up in the moment like any other team would do after winning a close game like that. lincoln brings it this year and we are looking to put up another good fight with you hillmen again.
Just an FYI to those that keep calling this the AUBURN newspaper.... guess you didn't know that all the communities share articles. This article is also posted on the LINCOLN NEWS MESSENGER SITE. So don't act like Lincoln fans are going to "your" paper and talking trash.
Also, it appears not only the kids who supposedly showed a lack of sportsmanship need to learn a few things about how to win AND lose with grace. I'm assuming most of the posters here are adults...please ACT LIKE IT. If it had been played on Saturday, the outcome could have very well gone the other way. I listened on the radio and LOVED it. It was so exciting. Such a great memory for the kids involved in this game. It'll be something they remember for a long time.
I have one question about all the finger waving assumptions. You have no idea how this is being handled internally (if it did happen), so why are you talking trash about "top down" and "needs to be handled by the coach".
You guys aren't the coach, and if it happened and a kid got carried away...let the coach handle it and SHUT UP!
The bottom line is Placer thought they were going to kill Lincoln, just like the mayor in Auburn ("hope they don't run up the score...")
Maybe those Hillmen will take the Zebras seriously now :)
I am thinking botand Lincoln fans need to zip it. You guys, not too long ago, were other teams homecoming games.
I am thinking both Placer and Lincoln fans need to zip it. You guys, not too long ago, were other teams homecoming games.
and thhhhhheeeeerrrrrreeeeee offffffff ...with the Weeeeekly Wine-eeerr Blog!!! breaking out of the gates early (which is no surprise for some Placer blogging Fans) is boomer68, followed closely by keyon59, Icarealot, chazzMichaelMichaels and a whole host of Lincoln supporters. All displaying unbelievable sportsmanship qualities in discussing 16-18 YEAR OLD KIDS!!! Also, can't believe the weekly statements about officiating. The crazy thing is...the amount of time you bloggers spend vomiting when you lose and even more incredible is your age as assumed by your "handles" Seems like a bunch of adults living vicariously through their or other's kids! Anyone remember TimMcGraw in Friday Night Lights?
from an impartial observer
well it looks like hssportsfan has it figured out. kids will be kids and you learn by your mistakes. if all the acusations are correct and i dont know if they are they will be handled in the locker room not in the papers. my son plays for the zebras and doesnt believe half of what is being said. he is bothered by the way they are being portrayed. as a leader on the team he plans to talk with the team on monday but no one know how any of this is already being handled. i just saw a great picture of #22 stanley who the hillman shut down on friday talking with your star player after the game. that looked like alot of class to me. lets give these boys on both sides a big hand for a great game and these are the lessons that turn them into men. time to stop the crybaby bickering and start acting like adults. as i know these boys have alot of respect for each other.
Raymond, I visit the Hillmen practice2-3 times a week and I can tell you this I spoke with know one, coaches or kids that didnt take Lincoln seriously. As far as trash talking, if Lincoln kids were out of line it is the coaches responsibliity, and you are right he probably is checking it out, but I doubt the players ran up to him and told him about it. I was standing about 30 feet from were they came across the 50 and there was more than one player displaying their sportsmanship. I also witnessed the young mans" appology" to Placers coach, takes some guts to do that. And Im sure he learned something.I also havent seen much of anyone trying to take anything away from Lincoln, I believe they just didnt like the antics they displayed. It certainly was a great game.
Calitex, who are you Don Bosco?!! I think this is human nature, some people like to hear themselves bitch.I know I cant wait to get up SAt. morning and see whats on the site!
And get off the mayor, gee, he made a statement probably weeks ago, probably taken out of context? and you guys want him hung.
And to all you dumb people how are saying wait for the playoffs, I would rather play a team I beat then a team that I lost to.
hssportsfan...Lincoln won. Thump you chest. Feel better now? All I commented on was the 'enthusiastic' behavior afterward. I just love it when its called, 'getting caught up in the moment.' Flippin' people off? Go ahead and justify it. Lincoln has a great team, just win with dignity. Whit did not do any of that last year to any of the teams they played and won. The fans did not run on the field or wave flags or fingers in anyone's face. You want to justify it, well fine. That says enough to me. Nuf said..over and out. Since this is a shared blog between all our communities....GOOOOOO CATS!
misty, oh misy,...animals are dumb, not people. People are stupid. But I digress...Of cours Whit can't duplicate Lincoln's 8-0 because Whit has lost 2 games. But lets see if Lincoln can duplicate Whit's 16-0 record before they lost to O-Dale this year. I can hardly wait. And if Lincoln does, well I will get on this post and give the Fighting Zebs their kudos. I think its funny you would say something so oxymoronic....
Oh and in case you didn't know it, most teams look forward to playing a team they lost to, so that they can wreak some vengance. But then I don't think you thought about that....you are so silly...
WOW...can you just let the Zebra boys enjoy the win..Both teams played hard!! Everyone keeps saying the only reason that Lincoln won was because Placer had too many turn overs, etc! Zebra's forced those! Zebra's got in thier heads and got them frusrated. Placer is used to scoring many TD's a game, Zeb's didn't allow that...they are a great-strong team! BOTH teams are! As far as the after game drama...my son said he went to shake the coahes hand and the coach pulled his hand away and say NO F that! To me that is far worse than a player making a mistake! (if he did) And what about all the blogs before the game, saying to stick around after the game for Zebra burger's etc..everyone just needs to relax, both teams are great, Zebra's were better Friday! GO ZEBRA'S! Good luck Hillmen!
Ya it is funny that all the negative aspects of the game get pilled on the zebras. Come on Placer faithfull defend your beloved coaches actions. That was a show of great sportsmanship on his part. And as far as what Whitney did last year Keyon WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just a line of loser talk if you ask me.
When Whitney played Lincoln last year I remember deep balls and fake punts when they were up by thrity points, real classy.
The frosh, JV, and Varsity played good games even though Varsity did not win. It was a hard fought game. Congratulations!!! GO HILLMAN!!!
mistymouse- negative on the game. NO. The game was great. It was the behavior after. And BTW you're the one that said to try and duplicate 8-0...goof ball. Tell me mathematically, how can Whit do that this year? NOT. Last year is done, I give you that. So then you mention last years 'deep balls and fake punts"....WHO CARES BACK ATCHA BABY. Go home enjoy your victory.
Your players have more class than their fans, as shown by Castillo's published apology...Kudos to you #45. You played great and you accepted responsibility for your actions and showed everyone you're man enough to own up to it. Good luck to you and your team for the rest of the season. You played a great game. That's all over and out...
LOL Cat fight meeeerrrow. Thanks Key for the ups. The Zeb kids are good kids, they talk about their brotherhood and team unity. They uplift their players when down. they help other players after tackles. they even pat other players for tackling them. They are way better then teams i have played for in Texas.
Mojo Fo Lyfe
This is my last post I swear never again. Keyon I said YOU CAN'T be 8-0 are you that old that you can not understand that. "And BTW you're the one that said to try and duplicate 8-0...goof ball. Tell me mathematically, how can Whit do that this year" ? (Keyon) That is what I am saying, you must be dumb.
I'm a Lincoln fan myself, but watching the game on the screen, too many miss tackles and poor blocking and standing around Lincoln got lucky.
Come on Zebras, you can do it!!!! Focus...
Sounds like alot of whining by guess who, Placer and Whitney fans, the 2 teams who lost to Lincoln. And I'm willing to bet Placer fans and players were not perfect angels either on game night. Quit playing the bad sportmanship card and accept the loss.
No, we were angles all the way. Sportsmanship and game outcome are different things. Lincoln played a great game...I've already posted that. It was the pre and post game antics that, for me, removed some of the quality of that win. Oh well, enough of this. I hope they continue to do well, and the smae for Placer. Perhaps there will be a re-match, and that would be a great game to attend.
I knew they didn't have what it would take, oh yeah it's Lincoln...lol..
