School districts got creative
Reader Input

Last year, after a number of years of staff reductions and other cost-cutting measures and upon the departure of the then superintendent/principal, Alta-Dutch Flat and Foresthill school districts partnered in a new model for school districts in this area.

Alta-Dutch Flat contracted with the Foresthill district to “buy” two days of superintendent services each month.

Upon the retirement of their business manager, Foresthill contracted with Alta-Dutch Flat for 50 percent of the Alta business manager’s time. Also, Alta-Dutch Flat contracted with a retired former superintendent/principal to serve as interim principal two days each week at the school.

Additionally, three teachers have assumed leadership roles as site coordinators in the areas of communications, technology and curriculum and they receive modest stipends for the added responsibility.

The entire A-DF staff has responded to these changes in an exceptional manner. Alta-Dutch Flat and Foresthill school districts have been experiencing the same difficult issues as all other districts in the state. This is not to say that it has been easy, but it does reflect the dedication, loyalty and leadership that can be found in the smaller school districts and communities in Placer County.

This letter contains the type of facts, information, and local interest items one would expect to see in an article rather than a letter to the editor.

Too bad the local paper does not have any reporters that cover such things.

Dave,

I think what Yosemite_Sam is saying is, "nice work".

This is not only a well written letter to the editor but the message is great as well! It's uplifting to know there are school administrators willing to try different solutions to financial problems.
