Non-injury accident possibly caused by red-light run

A non-injury accident on South Whitney and Sunset boulevards caused drivers to be redirected shortly Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 2 p.m. today. Rocklin Police Sgt. Tom Dwyer said neither driver was injured, except for complaint of pain. Both declined medical attention, Dwyer said.

Dwyer said the accident may have been caused by one of the drivers running a red light, turning left from Sunset Boulevard onto S. Whitney Boulevard. One of the cars endured a complete rollover, Dwyer said.

Both cars, a four-door sedan and a Jeep sport utility vehicle, were leaking fluids and towed away, Dwyer said.

The accident is currently under investigation, Dwyer said, and the roadways are clear.

All drivers who like to run red lights need to know about Snitch Tickets, which are fake/phishing red light camera tickets sent out by some police departments (including Rocklin's) to bluff the registered owner into ID'ing the actual driver of the car. (Local cities using them are Daly City, Elk Grove, Emeryville, Fairfield, Marysville, Millbrae, Modesto, Newark, Redding, Rocklin, San Leandro, San Mateo, Stockton and Union City.) Snitch Tickets haven't been filed with the court so they don't say "Notice to Appear," don't have the court's address, and say (on the back, in small letters), "Do not contact the court." Since they have NOT been filed with the court, they have no legal weight. You can ignore a Snitch Ticket. If in doubt, Google the term.

Or you could just be a man (or woman) and pay the damned fine and stop running red lights.

And while you're at it, turn off your phone while you're in your car.
