Regulate pit bull ownership
Reader Input
I live in Yuba County. A few months ago my boxer got into a fight inside my fenced yard. A few minutes later animal control was here and took my dog and left me with a fine to pay and they killed my dog. Now, these people (Auburn pit bull owner) should have never got a chance to get their dogs back. Thank God JoJo (Kerschner) is still alive because it could have been so much worse. There should be some kind of law were you can’t have these dogs in city limits. If these people violate these laws their dogs should be put down and have fines to pay or go to jail. I am just happy JoJo is OK. Joe Magliocca, Brownsville

Me too.
How can you tell a pit bull from other mixed breeds?
Joe.
If it was in YOUR FENCED YARD........
WHY WOULD YOU PAY A FINE FOR ANYTHING?
WHY DID YOU LET THEM TAKE AND KILL YOUR DOG?
ARE YOU NUTS?
Inside the fenced yard? Who was the fight with?
Joe, was something left out in your letter? It doesn't make sense that if the fight took place inside your yard and assuming your dog was licensed with the County and up to date with vaccinations that Animal Control would do what you say.
Joe hates dogs, but has a good story.
There should be some kind of law...Everytime somebody doesn't like something they want to make a new law. Where is the personal responsibility! Maybe they should pass a law that says people need to have common sense and be respectful of others. Now that would be an unfair law. Where is NAACP when you need them?
I sympathize with the young man that was bit, but it is just as likely that he could have been bit by any other type of breed. It is unlawful to have any type of ordinance in California that bands specific breeds of dogs, but it is lawful to require spay/neutering of these breeds.
I am an owner a an english and american blue nose terrier, and she is very obedient. Pit bulls have a very bad rap, but really they are very sweet and gentle if the owner is responsible with them. Dogs are pack animals, and although they are domesticated the owner should be the one to assume responsibility for any actions of the animals. It would be a shame to punish all pit owners for the irresponsibility of another.
Here is a website that is dedicated to pit bulls for owners and the public as well. http://www.pitbulladvocate101.com/
So good luck to the city council on satisfying everyone's demands on this topic.
Legislate dog ownership, legislate breed type, but don't ever ask anyone to take respsonsibility for their own actions. Heaven forbid some sanity come back into this world.
Fine Coverston, and slap him with some probation that limits HIS ownership since he was the owner when the dogs attacked JoJo, and please euthanize the dogs.
Joe: Was your letter overly edited? Try again.
Obviously this boxer owner doesn't realize that Boxers are often targeted whenever cities target Pit Bulls. In the news just a couple of months ago -- a white boxer being tasered (on video) while the cop refers to it as a "Pit Bull"
Yeah, I've actually seen that, dwncalif. More than once I've heard someone refer to a Boxer as a pitbull, and other than both being canines, there is no similarity in temperament.
