Celebrate Halloween with spooktacular fun
Halloween’s right around the corner, and you don’t want to be all dressed up — no matter what that costume might be — and have nowhere to go. Ghouls and goblins will find enough haunted happenings in the coming days to fill a pumpkin patch. Pumpkin Patch Party Why wait until next weekend to celebrate Halloween? Yamasaki Nursery holds its second-annual Pumpkin Patch Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Buddha’s Belly Bamboo Garden, 3700 Highway 49. Wear your costume and get a treat bag. Haunted high school Placer High School’s Interact Club has creeped out the campus in preparation for its haunted house tour. Tours, which start at the high school’s auditorium, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 30 and from 2 to 5 p.m. and again from 6 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 31. Younger visitors — those under age 10 — and those seeking smaller spook factor should check out the haunted house between 2 and 5 p.m. Oct. 31. The haunted tour carries an insane-asylum theme, and visits the auditorium, the Dungeon art gallery, and other buildings on campus. Cost is $4 per person, or $10 for a family, which must include at least one parent or adult. Placer High School is located at 275 Orange St. Call the school at (530) 885-4581 for more information. Grab that garlic Sink your teeth into something spooky as Colfax High School presents its fall drama production, “Dracula,” with performances at 7 p.m. Oct. 29-30, Nov. 5-7 and at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. All shows will be presented in the school’s Performing Art Theater, 24995 Ben Taylor Road, Colfax. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Trick or treat Costumed boys and girls are sure to score plenty of treats, and maybe a few tricks, as Auburn’s Downtown and Old Town business associations hosting a Safe Trick or Treat from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30. Businesses throughout the two districts open their doors to trick-or-treaters — just keep an eye out for pumpkin plates in the windows to identify participating businesses. Smashing pumpkins The Old Town Business Association and KAHI Radio 950 AM are conjuring up some serious Halloween mischief. Plans are underway for a first-ever huge-pumpkin drop, which is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in Old Town Auburn. Pumpkins weighing hundreds of pounds will be hoisted up by a crane and dropped. At least one of those bad boys will be stuffed with candy, said Linda Robinson of the Old Town Auburn Business Association. Pumpkin Path Live Oak Waldorf School presents its Pumpkin Path Oct. 30-31. Angels guide children and adults down a candle-lit pumpkin path through an enchanting tale of adventure, where children receive treasures at stops along the path. Pumpkin Path begins at 5 p.m. each night. Reservations are required and can be made at (530) 878-8720. Live Oak Waldorf School is located at 410 Crother Road in Meadow Vista. A Lincoln haunting The Lincoln Police Activities League and the Countryside Haunters host a haunted castle 6-10 p.m. Wednesday through Oct. 31 at the McBean Park Pavilion barbecue area, on McBean Park Road in Downtown Lincoln. One donated can of food gets you into the haunted castle. This haunting might be too spooky for children 6 and younger. Rockin’ Halloween Halloween hauntings continue after all the trick-or-treaters have gone to bed. At least three Auburn-area watering holes are holding Halloween parties with costume contests on Oct. 31. Pistol Pete’s, 140 Harrison Ave., hosts live music by The Never Too Late Band starting at 9 p.m. Cover is $5. Call (530) 885-5093 for information.
