Code Blue performs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Auburn Community Festival at Recreation Park.

Saturday’s Auburn Community Festival promises to fulfill your fix for all things fall.

Between giant pumpkins, silly scarecrows and crazy costumes, there are quite a few ways to get into the spirit of the festival, which will be held at Auburn’s Recreation Park.

Not to worry though — just because you didn’t grow that thousand-pound gourd doesn’t mean you can’t have plenty of fun.

The morning kicks off at 9:30 a.m., when the giant pumpkin weigh-in begins.

Starting at 10 a.m., visitors can check out the pumpkins and scarecrows, grab a snack, participate in games, arts and crafts and more, all while listening to the musical stylings of Gabe Lewin, who performs from 10 a.m. to noon.

Harvest recipe contest judging goes from 11 a.m. to noon, with awards scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Recipe awards are followed shortly by giant pumpkin awards, at 12:45 p.m.

Code Blue is scheduled to rock from 1-4 p.m.

Fred Glass, lead singer and guitarist for the band, guesses it’s Code Blue’s fourth time playing at the Auburn Community Festival, and said there are a number of reasons why Code Blue keeps coming back to Auburn.

“What’s so nice about that festival is, it’s got such a nice park and has a great family atmosphere,” he said. “The Auburn community, the people are so nice and welcoming to us, so we really look forward to coming up.”

Jeff Ciokewicz, who goes by the stage name “Jeff James,” agrees. He and Glass are the band’s founding members.

“The people are extremely friendly, very nice, and we just get a very down-home type of feeling from everybody,” he said of the Community Festival.

Code Blue has been together for more than 20 years, starting off as Blue Prairie Band, an earlier, heavier-on-the-country group that became Code Blue as the band’s song list took on more and more rock.

“Code Blue was rock, Blue Prairie (Band) was country, and we’re very versatile and able to go in either direction,” Glass said. “We just sort of cross the wires and play a little bit of everything.”

Glass said Code Blue’s musical specialty is cover songs — audience members might catch some country tunes by Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson as well as rock favorites by the Doobie Brothers and Huey Lewis and the News. Think “Brown Eyed Girl” meets Brooks & Dunn.

Glass is pretty proud of the group’s vocal stylings.

“We’re big on harmonies, a lot of three-part, four-part harmonies,” he said.

Code Blue taking the stage is also a sign that it’s time to register for the costume contest. Costume judging — for kids, adults and dogs — is scheduled for 2 p.m., and around 2:15 p.m. the Sugar Plump Fairies will lead the costume parade. Awards for the best costumes are given out after the parade.

The last round of awards comes at 3:30 p.m., when the scarecrow contest winners are announced.
