Court roundup: Jail escapee trial coming up
Man accused of bar beating now in jail
A man charged with kicking in a woman’s teeth is now in custody and a Placer Jail escapee has a tentative trial date set for January. The following is a summary of where some Placer County crime stories stand in the court process.
Andrew Henry Ewing Formal felony and misdemeanor charges were filed against Andrew Henry Ewing, 26, earlier this year. In January, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office alleged that Ewing committed one felony charge of battery on a person with serious bodily injury and two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm. The following month, Ewing was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and driving under the influence with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher. There was also a civil lawsuit involving Ewing and James and Betty Palmer, the owners of Bob and Betty’s 160 Club in Auburn. Auburn resident Maureen Tillack was one of the plaintiffs in the case. Tillack told the Journal in an earlier report that she was at the Downtown bar in late January when she saw Ewing arguing with another girl. When she went to step in, Ewing allegedly hit Tillack and knocked her front teeth out. The community rallied to help Tillack recover from her injuries and gave her a new set of teeth. In July, the civil lawsuit was dropped from the court’s calendar. However, Ewing is expected to appear in Placer Superior court this month to face criminal charges. He is currently held on $260,000 bail at Placer County Jail. A trail assignment conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23 in Dept. 33 at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville.
David Zablotny and Wade Isom Two 19-year-old men are free from jail after they allegedly stole more than $20,000 in items from Meadow Vista and Auburn residents. On July 31 felony charges were filed against David Bradley Zablotny of Auburn and Wade Ryan Isom of Colfax in connection with several car thefts in which they allegedly stole numerous personal belongings ranging from tennis racquets to GPS units to bicycles Both men are accused of seven misdemeanor counts of petty theft, four felony counts of grand theft of personal or real property, two felony counts of burglary, one felony count of excess acquisition of access cards and one count of receiving known stolen property. They both entered not guilty pleas at an Aug. 4 arraignment. Zablotny and Isom, who were released on their own recognizance, are scheduled to appear in Placer Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 9 in Dept. 13 at the Placer County Jail in Auburn.
David Lee Todd A man who tried unsuccessfully to escape from Placer County Jail has a tentative trial date scheduled for early next year. David Lee Todd, 50, a transient, will appear in court in February 2010 regarding a multitude of charges filed against him. In January 2009, the current Placer County Jail inmate was charged with six felony counts including escape by force or violence, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, resisting an executive officer, battery with injury to a peace officer and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle. Court records show a string of prior felony charges that landed Todd in jail. In January 2007 he was charged with two felony counts of burglary, two felony counts of petty theft with priors and one count of failure to appear. In September 2008, another charge of failure to appear was filed. On Dec. 11, 2008, following a Dec. 9, 2008 arrest, nine felony counts of burglary were filed as well as four felony counts of grand theft of personal or real property, one felony count of selling or withholding a vehicle, one felony count of a felon or addict in possession of a firearm and two felony counts of robbery. Almost all of the charges included special allegations of a second out of three strikes felon and a person who has committed serious felonies before. Todd is scheduled to appear in Placer Superior court at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26 for a trial assignment conference in Dept. 33 at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. A tentative jury trial is set for March 1.
Paul T. Heintz A 22-year-old man accused of trying to kill a Sierra College student from Auburn on campus will appear in court this month. Paul T. Heintz of Rocklin is charged with two separate felonies: one for attempted murder and the other for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm. There is also a special allegation of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony and another allegation of great bodily injury. Heintz allegedly attacked and stabbed a 21-year-old Auburn man multiple times in late March while both were Sierra College’s Rocklin campus. The Auburn man survived. Heintz, who remains in custody at Placer County Jail, entered a not guilty plea in March. He is scheduled to appear in Placer Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 16 in Dept. 33 in the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. A preliminary exam is set for Oct. 19. Does anyone know why the civil suit against Mr Ewing was dropped?
mizBhaven....Probably because doesn't have, and never WILL have, a dime. Two of these stories frighten me. Why is Zablotney and company out on bail? They will be burglarizing cars and making trips to the "fence" to get money for the court process. And the Todd guy. Are you KIDDING ME? Jeez Mageez, put the boy AWAY! Was it three strikes or 13 strikes! He's 50, homeless, and institutionalized. He WANTS to go back home to prison for the rest of his life. LET HIM, for crying out loud. If you don't, he'll kill someone. It's as if he's trying to make the Guiness Book by racking up so MANY hard core felonies. I haven't seen as horrible a story as his since I was a kid.
Also, Auburn Journal, how about showing a PHOTO of Todd? Just in case of a fluke, or injustice...this monster gets out...well come on. How about a photo? If the animal gets out of the cage, let's recognize him.
That is his pic.
I would REALLY like to have just a few minutes alone with this scumbag!
