Miyagi gymnasts up to the ‘Challenge’
Miyagi Gymnastics Academy's girls team competed in the Stars Challenge last weekend in Union City. The squad, one of 10 at the event, was Placer County's lone representative. Sixty-seven gymnasts competed in level 4 action. Thea Economou had the highest finish for the Miyagi team, placing third in the junior division vault and beam competitions. Economou also took sixth in the all-around and seventh in the bars. In the younger division, Ashley Wood placed fifth in vault and seventh in beam and all-around. Alexis Vasquez was sixth in vault and 10th in all-around. Holly Hansen took sixth in beam and all-around and seventh in floor competition. In the senior "B" division, Courtney Cederloff placed ninth. The academy will host a meet at its Bell Road facility on Oct. 10.
