Disaster Relief Cleanup began on Monday morning, September 21 in Auburn and finished two days early.

from the original description:

We have assessed 16 properties which we hope to clean in a timely manner. Volunteers can come to assist for the entire week (Monday-Saturday) or for any part of that week.

All volunteers are to meet at Bell Road Baptist Church, 707 Bell Road, Auburn by 7:30 am each morning. Out of town volunteers are welcome to bring sleeping bags and air mattresses and sleep at the church, or you can bring RVs or travel trailers and park at the church.

There are limited water and electric hookups and no sewer dump is available for RVs. There will be a shower trailer on site for volunteers to use. Breakfast and Supper will be served at the church for volunteers daily. Lunches will be brought to the field.

There is very limited parking in the burn area and much traffic, so we will shuttle volunteers to the work site, Private cars can be parked at a nearby business that has given us permission. We will normally quit work each day around 4:00 and leave for the church around 4:30. All volunteers (including local volunteers) should plan to attend the daily debrief that will be held by work teams at 5:00. Time will be allowed for showers before supper.

All volunteers must have solid sole work shoes or boots (preferable). Long pants, wide brim hat (yellow caps qualify), work gloves are also necessary. Trained volunteers need to remember their shirts, badge and hat. The County Environmental Department is requiring that we all wear respirator masks when we are working. These will be provided. Plastic eye goggles are recommended, but will not be required. There are several tasks on each team that do not require heavy strenuous work.

Any volunteer is free to work at their pace under the leadership of their Blue Cap (team leader). We will have plenty of water and take breaks throughout the day. Most important, bring a heart for service to our Lord, a willingness to follow the leadership of your Blue Cap, and a passion to show others the love of Christ.

Please call ReneƩ McKinley, Offsite Coordinator, to advise of the days you can work, your intended time of arrival and if you will be sleeping at the church and taking breakfast and/or supper with us. Her number is (530) 265-3621.

For other information, call Pastor Rob: (530) 366-2924.

Here is an AJ update of other ways to help fire victims:

http://auburnjournal.com/detail/128541.html

My son, Jeremiah (22) and I volunteered for the whole day with all those who drove to Auburn to help.

If anyone else wants to join in, come to the church for breakfast tomorrow.
