Placer County schools earn high API scores
Local schools continue to prove their educational prowess, with many scoring above the state’s 741-point average and climbing above the state’s 800-point Academic Performance Index target goal. Among those hitting the 800 mark or higher this year are Bowman, Auburn Elementary, Skyridge, E.V. Cain Middle, Colfax Elementary, Foresthill Elementary, Newcastle charter and elementary schools, Sierra Hills, Weimar Hills, Colfax High, Del Oro High and all Loomis Union Elementary School District schools. The climb from 784 to 819 is quite an accomplishment for E.V. Cain Middle School, said Principal Randy Ittner. “It’s exciting,” he said. “I’m really proud of our students. I’m really proud of our teachers.” Results released Tuesday on California’s Accountability Progress Report, or APR, are comprised of the state’s Academic Performance Index, or API, and the federal Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP. The API is a numeric index that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1,000. The California Department of Education uses the 2008 results to establish a baseline and academic growth targets for each school to improve upon the following school year. Both API and AYP are based on statewide assessment results, released in August, which include the Standardized Testing and Reporting, or STAR, program, and the California High School Exit Examination. See upcoming editions of the Auburn Journal for additional coverage.

These are significant achievements by local schools. Congratulations to the hard working staffs, parents and students. It is nice to reflect on events that highlight the achievements of well-run public schools.
My kids have gone to private schools their entire life. However, we recently moved our youngest daughter from a private school that has literally been coming apart to E.V. Cain. My wife and I were so apprehensive about this move. We have been blown away, however, at how awesome E.V. Cain School has become with Randy Ittner at the wheel. The school does a great job and the teachers should all feel a great sense of accomplishment from these results. Congratulations to E.V. Cain school, the teachers, the students and Randy Ittner. Acadian, Congratulation to you.
This is a testament to are the hard working parents out there who work with theirs kids like I do for sometimes hours a night.
Stumpbranch, I work with my kids every night also, but you can’t take away the credit deserved to the school, principal and teachers at Cain. It isn’t all the parents; otherwise you wouldn’t need to send your children to school at all. Give them the credit they deserve.
I'm sorry was I implying that the schools has nothing to do with our education? No. I just want to acknowledge the hard work all the parents do as well. Not only homework but also the volunteers in the classroom do an excellent job. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to thank them as well. Thanks to the teachers aslo. Is that better?
Thanks Patrick50. It feels good to be on a winning team of students, parents, and teachers.
