As an old time paddler, both canoes and kayaks I will warn you that it is a very addictive activity. It is also very good for the body and the soul and you will enjoy it tremendously.

Becky, you can spend a ton or very little. I would suggest you rent a couple of boats go down to the nearest lake, a favorite on mine is Clementine (upper) and try it out. It is truly addictive and contagious, all my kids paddle and as soon as the grandkids are old enough they start. My oldest granddaughter and I will be going to Alaska next summer to paddle in the Fjords National Park.
