Saturday’s Red Hot Summer Dance Party is going to live up to its name, if Mother Nature has anything to say about it.

Triple-digit temperatures will do nothing but help further heat up what has become quite the rockin’ party, which is held at the Bayley House Barn adjacent to Pilot Hill’s Historic Bayley House.

“We’ve established a reputation for having a good, fun party,” said Aloha Adams, event co-chairman.

The Bayley House, completed in 1862 by attorney and future state Assemblyman A. J. Bayley, has ties to California’s agricultural and railroad history.

Adams grew up near the Bayley House and fondly remembers attending a wedding there in 1949.

“I remember how gorgeous it was,” Adams said. “I’ve just got to see it back to its original state.”

The dance party is a key fundraiser for the local nonprofit group trying to breathe new life into the Bayley House, which resides on the National Register of Historic Places and was the site of California’s first Grange Hall.

“We’re facilitating the restoration and preservation of the Bayley House, and that basically includes grant writing, fundraising and events,” said Jaime Tafoya, Friends of the Bayley House board member. “It’s imperative to keep the Bayley House at the forefront, and to keep awareness up.”

Friends of the Bayley House are working little by little in the direction of restoring the Bayley House for use as a museum and community center. The first phase of restoration was completed in 2007.

A “significant” grant from Teichert will allow for foundation work, Tafoya said, a project which should be done by the end of the year.

“That will pretty much button up the final phase of stabilization,” he said.

The next step will be to lobby at the state level to get the Bayley House recognized as a National Historic Landmark, which will open the project up for federal funding, Tafoya said.

Saturday’s party features live music by The BluesBox Bayou Band, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Headliner Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers take the stage around 9:30 p.m.

No matter how high the temperature Saturday, the dance party is sure to be a good time, Tafoya said.

“There really is something magical about this event,” he said.
