Suicide suspected in death of elderly man
The body of an elderly male was discovered this morning at the Middle Fork of the American River near Auburn. According to Sgt. Ed. Clark of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the cause of death is believed to be suicide. The victim, said Sgt. Clark, suffered from a “single gunshot wound to the head.” A revolver was next to the body, which was on the river bank. A group of three fishermen located the body and reported it to authorities. El Dorado Sheriff’s units were first on the scene but realized the incident was not in their county and notified Placer County at 7 a.m. Sgt. Clark said he assisted in carrying the body up the hill, about 100 yards from the roadway. The identity of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin, Sgt. Clark said.

OK, Saladin, Observer, chuxxr, Ron Schwab, Rabidog, steelybob, Michael Hanson and Jack Buckman, get up, you have another death scene to go to. Come on now, no time for a break or lunch, you need to get out there and help pull this body 100 yards up the hill, because you know, you can't trust the cops. Besides, it's appauling that a sergeant, with his higher salary, is doing the grunt work of a deputy. Appauling I tell you.
Analyst,
Way to use a tragedy to win an unrelated argument. You are awesome.
Sorry Jo, you're right, just trying to illistrate to the cop haters that the cops have more on their plate than just trying to harrass citizens. This and the Del Oro incident are tragedies, and it's the cops who have to clean it up.
Those guys are not cop haters, but I think you already know that. Stop exploiting the deaths of others.
Yes they are.
Our society makes it very hard for the elderly to function... especially if they lack money. There's also the lack of company when someone's wife or husband dies. It's sad.
My God have mercy on his soul and bring him to the peace that he obviously lacked here on earth.
Analyst, I know you are involved with law enforcement, but please, have pity on the family members and stop using these stories to make your point.
I agree Saladin, and I fear it will only get worse as time goes on. My sympathy to the family and the people who loved this man.
I am sorry for your loss family and friends of this departed man. * I know it is difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, but looking back in memory may help comfort you tomorrow". May love of others comfort and carry you through this difficult time.
Here is a song for the next time life gets tough:
Bill Withers - Lean on Me Lyrics
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Joszef_Pelikan, yes. Yes they ARE cop haters. If not all-out cop haters then they are either anti-authoritian, believe that they can do no wrong in "their" fare city of Auburn or that have gotten caught doing something illegal in the past, and being issued a verbal "warning" to slow down and come to a complete stop or being put thru FSTs after leaving the bar at 1am after (gasp!) failing to come to a complete stop, are probably at the bottom of their crime barrel when it comes to field contacts by law enforcement. Anybody who complains so much about law enforcement has a much bigger problem and agenda against law enforcement. So it's extremely important for people like Analyst to point out these other peoples' hypocracy of telling every idiot that'll listen to them that cops (especially APD) are bad and need to be fired/lose their job etc., because the minute that one of their family members gets run over and killed by some idiot speeding along Auburn Ravine Rd (or any roadway) or didn't come to a complete stop, it's these people that will scream and cry the loudest to whoever will listen to them: "WHY DIDN'T APD STOP THESE SPEEDERS BEFORE SOMEONE GOT KILLED!? WHY DIDN'T APD STOP THAT DRUNK DRIVER WHO RAN THE STOP SIGN BEFORE HE KILLED MY PRCIOUS CHILD!?" so I say to Analyst: Keep up the good work pointing hot these peoples' anti-LE hypocracy.
Tackleberry, I am not an anti law enforcement person. As a matter of fact twice this past weekend I wished there had been an officer where I was, he could have taken a couple of very dangerous individual out of commission.
However, law enforcement is not above criticism. I made a comment on how the Sheriff's Dept can't seem to budget their money properly. This comment on finances, not performance or deportment, brought out a comment from Realist, not a very nice one. It is public knowledge and public record that the Sheriff Dept has been overrunning it's budget for many years, that is fact. I don't know what position does Realist holds in the Sheriff's Dept. but one thing is certain, any criticism of the department will bring out insulting remarks. Two things, number one, I hope he is a low level employee and not someone with authority, this is not the attitude you want to impress upon your employees. And, number two, it is this type of reaction and attitude that causes the letters to the editors complaining about arrogant cops, etc.
Other than that, I hope that the Sheriff, the CHP and all the Police Departments in Placer County continue to protect and serve, your are not perfect and neither are the citizens.
One last thought, I would much rather have my "civil rights" inconvenienced briefly by a Law Enforcement agent that permanently by a drunk drive, red light runner or some idiot out to take someone out for no reason.
Very sad, do not know how this man's very sad & lonley last mins. turn in to a law enforcement debate.
My condloences to his family. RIP
I wish there had been help for this man who could find no other way to end the pain.
So many suffer while there are so few resources.
My condolences.
