Try joining real world, county workers
Reader Input

Is there any way that you might enlighten and educate me by printing the job descriptions for the following positions in Placer County? Veteran services officer, Chief assistant CEO, Deputy county executive officer, Managing account auditor, Deputy county counsel III, Assistant client services program director and, finally, Chief probation officer.

Yes, (these are) the county employees who just received raises (Journal, June 25).

Seems like a lot of high-falutin’ titles that don’t have much to do except think of names for additional jobs.

Just what are the qualifications for these jobs? Years of university? Extra studies? Can I apply? Just who is this guy (Chuck) Parcher? No “gloom and doom?” Hell no, not when you’re being spoon-fed by the public trough!

Get a clue. Quit your cushy government job and step into a real world.

Try getting your own health plan. Try re-financing your own “mansion.” Buy your own car (hopefully from GM or Chrysler, or haven’t you noticed?) and fuel.

Pay for your own fuel and auto expenses. Get a real job in the private sector!

With your extensive background in government service it should only be a short time — say, 10 to 15 years before a job opening in your field of expertise occurs.

I wasn’t planning on all the poison in my tirade, but damn, someone has to open the senses (seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, etc.) of our higher government employees.

God knows, they seem to have forgotten the hand that feeds them belongs to the public and have lost all touch with the real world.

I have more concern of size of government. Too many want to only throw out the... I pay your salary thing. Close down the dirty side of industry or even those businesses that contribute to bad health. Does the person who owns a cigarette store get to beat up public employees? How about people who work at refineries? The list could go on. I only ask that public employees are good stewards of money and that those we elect are honest with some morals.... things that have been lost lately.

Thomas, any position with "assistant" as part of the title is a reward. There are quite a few around, another one was just created. In other words someone up high in the County is thanking someone for their "support", with your tax dollars. In the case of the Chief Assistant, that was to shut him up for not getting the CEO job, you know, second place is the first loser..

Placer County- A dirty little county nestled in the beautiful Sierra foothills.

There are people at the county, state and federal levels who get paid to distribute tax dollars to programs. For example, the USDA has programs that give money to people to incent them to reduce pollution in their farm equipment. The State of California also has such programs. These programs literally give away money.

The people who manage them get paid to find recipients, qualify them, and administer the money. If they cannot find recipients, their budget will dry up, so they find recipients and if not fully qualified, they will adjust the requirements as necessary.

Such program administration, and programs span from agricultural assistance, to free dental care, to elderly care, etc.

A friend of mine has a brother who gets paid to watch his grandchildren during the day (he is on disability even though he has a prosperous home business) and his daughter (unemployed with 4 kids by 3 fathers) goes to school but changes majors regularly so she will never graduate.

There must be at least 10 people administering all of the free stuff they get.

Sure,Yosam, sure.

Hey Yosemite_Sam, I have a question for you.

Who is at fault here, your friends brothers family who is sucking down our tax dollars with no intention of ever getting off the public dole, or county employees who are trying to run programs to help people who really want the help, need the help, and intend to contribute to the betterment of society by bettering themselves?

Well said lone wolf.

alonharris: The government workers know he is scamming. They get paid to distribute money. If they cut him and the scammers off, they get nothing for next year.

So, is the issue that some people make more money than others who are less skilled and educated?

"A friend of mine has a brother...". This is Yosemite_Sam/Old_Prospector/PurpleHeartVietnamVet/Placer_Democrat's lead into another of his first-hand, eye witness fairy tales. Kind of like "Once upon a time"...

"So, is the issue that some people make more money than others who are less _skilled and educated_?" In the private sector - yes as long as government was not controlling who you can hire. There is incentive for advancement. In public sector unionized jobs it makes little difference as you get paid the same as the rest of the employees that are listed as (GS7 as an example), there is no incentive to work hard to reap more. In fact many of the higher paying positions like the fire fighters in NJ tested for aren't available unless you are a minority.

The County Veterans Service Officer is an advocate for veterans, their widows, widowers and their children. The VSO knows the laws that have been passed by the U.S, Congress concerning veterans and their dependents so that veterans with questions about their benefits, etc. have an understanding advocate to help them through the bureaucratic maze.

UhHuh - Now that you mention it, there is a similarity between the writing style of Prospector, Rational_Thinker, PurpleHeartVietnamVet, Placer_Democrat, AnInconvenientPost, and a few others long gone but leaving a bad taste behind. Specifically, those posts that begin with "I met a guy..." or "I have a friend..." Sources anonymous and thus unchallengable.

I'm not going to say that all the position up for reises are totally worthless but if one deserves to exist and possibly get a raise it would be the Veteran's Services Officer. His office does a lot for our vets and their families as skeptic so ably described it
