ARD may get help on lifeguard facility remodel
The Auburn Recreation District could be getting volunteer help to renovate its lifeguard facility at Recreation Park that could save $60,000. A volunteer group headed by former city Councilman Bob Snyder has expressed interest in providing labor on the project. The lifeguard facility was to be part of a larger locker room remodel at the park. Discolored and cracked tile, a lack of lockers and aging floors are some of the problems in the locker rooms. The ARD board of directors voted Thursday to make the lifeguard facility an optional line item, so the locker room remodel could go out to bid without the lifeguard facility. The locker room remodel should go out to bid this summer with construction slated to begin in September, said District Administrator Kahl Muscott. The cost for the locker room remodel is $470,000. In other business from Thursday’s meeting: n Estelle Maxwell was presented the June Volunteer of the Month award. Estelle helped coach an ARD T-Ball team. Along the way, Estelle has offered special one-on-one training with a player who was struggling with the sport. n The ARD Board approved the Engineer’s Report and ordered the Levy of Assessment for Fiscal Year 2009/2010 for the Atwood Ranch Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District. This special Assessment District was put in place to help ARD maintain the 10.69-acre nature preserve in the Atwood III subdivision. n Director Jim Gray thanked the facilities and grounds crew for the tremendous work done getting Beggs Field ready for the Little League Tournament of Champions that took place during the last week. Director Gray said that he heard many compliments from both hometown fans and those visiting from out of the area. n Director Scott Holbrook thanked staff and the many sponsors for what was another successful Party in the Park. The event went off flawlessly and everyone had a great time, he said. Pictures and video from the event can be seen at partyinthepark.net. n Recreation Services Manager Sheryl Petersen reported that Sierra Pool at Recreation Park will be hosting the Valley Foothill Competitive Aquatics League Synchronized Swimming Championships July 18 and 19. ARD will be holding a workshop on July 1 that will focus on budgetary issues over the next two fiscal years. ARD, along with all California cities, counties and special districts, is facing the possibility that the state of California will be borrowing funds to help with the state budget deficit. ARD is also facing a forecasted budget deficit for fiscal year 2010/2011. These issues will be discussed by the ARD Board at the workshop. The workshop will take place at 6 p.m. at the Canyon View Community Center.
