Performing arts center group receives $10,000 grant

The Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center (APPAC) is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Union Pacific Foundation. Announcement of the grant was made at this week’s Auburn City Council meeting by Mayor Mike Holmes.

On hand to present a check to APPAC President Paul Ogden was Wesley J. Lujan, director of public affairs for Union Pacific Railroad. Also attending the meeting was APPAC Board member Bob Burge, who prepared the grant application.

Lujan said the grant represented Union Pacific Railroad’s commitment to the Auburn community and its belief in the important of the arts.

“APPAC is honored to be selected as a grant recipient,” said Ogden, adding that he believes significant progress in the first phase restoration of the State Theatre was a factor in APPAC’s being selected for the grant.

APPAC will inaugurate its first season of live performances at the State Theatre with the Placer Community Theater’s production of “Mid-Life, The Crisis Musical.” The musical comedy will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Aug. 7-22. APPAC will be releasing a calendar of live performances and films in late July. Stay informed by visiting the Web site, livefromauburn.com.
