Alex Esmerian took third at last weekend’s Region I Level 9 Championships in Sacramento.

Auburn’s Miyagi’s Gymnastics was well-represented at last weekend’s Region I, Level 8-10 Championships at Cal Expo.

There were nearly 700 gymnasts competing from all over California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

In level 9 action, Chandra Kramer had her top score on the floor with a 9.15 which earned her the seventh place spot in her age division. Each of the four level 8 gymnasts scored over 35 in the all-around. Mackensi Emory earned scores over 9.05 on three of the four events and had an all-around of 35.075.

Kiely Gode’s vault scored a 9.425 and her floor exercise was awarded a score of 9.175. Her all-around score of 35.55 was only one tenth off her season-best.

Lea Fong was solid on all four apparatus with her high score of 8.975 coming on the floor. Her all-around score of 35.575 was her highest score of the season.

The day, however, belonged to Alex Esmerian. The 12-year-old had everything come together at the right time. Her vault (9.5), beam (9.325), floor (9.35) and all-around (37.25) were all top 5 finishes in her age group and her bar score of 9.075 was good for 11th place.

“It was a very successful year,” Coach Noboru Miyagi said. “We sent nine girls to state and six to the regionals. Region 1 is the most powerful region in the country.”
