Miyagi athletes to compete at regionals

Auburn’s Miyagi Gymnastics Academy will send six athletes to this weekend’s USA Gymnastics Region I Championships at Cal Expo.

The Miyagi’s standouts qualified for the regional meet by scoring at least a 34.0 at the state championships late last month.

Mackensi Emory, Alex Esmerian, Lea Fong and Kiely Gode qualified in the Level 8 division.

Esmerian led the Level 8 team, scoring a 35.70 in the all-around at state. She scored a 9.425 on the floor exercise and a 9.250 on the vault.

Gode was close behind with a 35.575 in the all-around, including a 9.325 on the floor and 9.250 on the vault. Emory scored a 9.175 on the floor and an 8.95 on the bars while Fong scored an 8.8 on the floor and a 8.275 on the vault.

Chandra Kramer had a strong showing in the Level 9 division, finishing with a 34.50 in the all-around. She scored a 9.05 in the vault and a 9.0 in the floor.

Level 10 gymnast Annie Penrose scored a 34.025 in the all-around to qualifiy for regionals.

Kramer and Penrose will compete for a spot on the Region I team, which will compete in Oklahoma later this year.
