Business holds fundraiser for Auburn victim
Day spa event to raise money to offset dental work costs
Some community businesses are rallying to help a long-time local pay her medical bills after a recent fight left her toothless. Maureen “Moe” Tillack’s front teeth were knocked out and bones in her jaw broken when she tried to offer assistance to a fellow patron at Bob and Betty’s 160 Club in Auburn. This weekend, the Robie House in Downtown Auburn will hold a fundraiser to help offset Tillack’s medical costs. Tillack, a former employee at the spa, said she can no longer work because of her injuries. Following the altercation, Andrew Henry Ewing, 25, of Auburn, was arrested and charged with battery with serious bodily injury and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, both of which are felonies. Ewing has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defense Attorney Thomas Leupp declined to comment at this time until he had an opportunity to review the police reports. He said Ewing is an engineer who has no prior record of assault. Tillack said she was at the 160 Club on a Sunday night in late January with her family. She said they were enjoying friendly shuffleboard matches and dancing when she stepped outside for a few minutes to cool off. “I was looking at the moon thinking this is so much fun and then I looked to my right and saw a guy hitting a girl,” Tillack said. “It was pretty close to me so I jumped up.” Tillack said she remembers the woman was falling and Tillack said she jumped up to try to catch the woman’s head from hitting the ground. She said what happened next is unclear. She doesn’t remember if the man kicked or punched her in the face but it knocked her out. When she woke up, she said her face was “split open” and her teeth were gone. “It was crazy,” Tillack said. “I’ve never been through anything like this.” Tillack said it will take about a year of reconstructive surgery to repair the damage. She said for about the next six months, she will keep a hard wire in her mouth to prevent her loose teeth from falling out. She said the bones in her upper jaw and palate are “crushed.” Tillack, who said she has lived in Auburn for the entire 50 years of her life, said she rarely goes to area bars. “I’ve never felt unsafe in my town,” Tillack said. “I love Auburn.” Donations can also be made at Home Town Realty c/o Bob Wallace and Brocks Custom Cycle. Sounds like Bob & Betty's need security on staff. This is not the first time there has been great bodily injury there. Or they are serving patrons that are already to intoxicated? I hope she heals ok. It is sad that you go out for a little fun & there is always that one person who is jerk.
Hey Auburn Journal...Is this the first time that you have posted this story about what Mr. Ewing did to Mo? My understanding is that there were five people hurt by this man and the services of five ambulances were needed. I hope Mr. Ewing pays for all the injuries he caused. He must have some major anger issues. I hope Mo gets all the medical help she needs. Good luck Mo!!!
I checked the jail roster & didn't see his name--if he's bailed, I'm pissed. He poses a huge threat & shouldn't be out. Bail guidlines & inequities in Placer County are absurd.
I was at the 160 Club that night. Ewing was beyond intoxicated and should have been cut off way before he caused all of the injuries to patrons of the bar.
Poor Mo!!!!
Yes steelybob this kid was bailed out by his parents. He had a 150,000 bail so it would have been 15,000? From what I understand they have money. He has two DUI's and is going to anger management classes as well.
I really hope Bob and Betty (or who ever own this place) take responsibility and properly train the bartender's. They are legally responsible right?
I can't believe Mo has to deal with all this and Andrew get's to be pampered at home by his parents. Wake up Folk's! You'r kid needs to deal with the consequence of his actions. Then you have the girlfriend who dropped charges after being punched in the nose! Grrr!
I was at the 160 this night, it still makes me sick to picture what happened. Just heart wrenching.
Get well soon Moe. We're rootin' for you all the way. And everyone else, please jump on over to www.iheartmo.com website and send what you can to the recovery fund that's been set up for her. Thanks a million. mf
I think that the reporter should have worded the story a little differently at the start of the article it sounds as if maureen was involved in a bar fight when in fact she was viciously attacked when coming to the aid of a stranger. The article also should have referred to her a ms Tillack not just Tillack (let's show some respect). Reporters need to get the story straight and take pride in their work.
thanks keep up you faith and courage mo
